Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is pondering a shock swoop to sign France striker Antoine Griezmann, according to a report.
Griezmann, 30, rejoined Atletico Madrid in the summer after an unsuccessful spell with Barcelona. The attacker left Atletico for Barcelona in a €120m deal in 2019 but has failed to live up to expectations. He scored 22 goals in 74 La Liga games for the Catalan club. But he returned on a loan deal in the summer.
The transfer back to Atletico was a shock deal which went through on deadline day. Griezmann returned on a season’s loan with an obligation for the transfer to become permanent for €40m. That deal can be made permanent in either 2022 or 2023 with Atletico currently paying his wages in full.
Just how Spurs would go about a deal is unclear and it would certainly be complicated. But Spurs are looking to add to their squad and, according to Fichajes, the 2018 World Cup winner could be heading to London.
Conte is said to be an admirer of the player and watching developments at the Wanda Metropolitano.
The report claims his future at Atletico is “uncertain” after an underwhelming return. He has seven goals in 21 games this season and Atletico are considering severing the deal with Barca.
That would mean he would return to Catalonia, where his contract runs until 2024. And Spurs have “shown the most interest” in landing the forward.

Conte fancies Kulusevski
Spurs, under Conte could well be an enticing prospect for the ex-Real Sociedad winger. He has spent his entire senior career in Spain and a new challenge in the Premier League could appeal to the Macon-born striker.
Meanwhile, Tottenham are reportedly upping the stakes in an effort to secure the signing of Sweden winger Dejan Kulusevski.
As per Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness, Spurs are readying a firm approach for Juventus star Kulusevski. They report that Spurs are ‘ready to get serious’ about the winger and lead the race for his signature.
Furthermore, they claim Conte also ‘likes the player’ and already has a role in mind for Kulusevski in his side. They state the Spurs chief wants the Swede to play behind Harry Kane in his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.
