David Beckham says that “changes” are afoot at Manchester United as Erik ten Hag prepares to take over at Old Trafford.

Ralf Rangnick’s men sunk to a new low on Saturday as they were outplayed at Brighton. The heavy 4-0 defeat has drawn plenty of criticism and the result against the Seagulls highlights what a big job Ten Hag has on his plate.

Ten Hag remains in charge of Ajax, who drew 2-2 with AZ Alkmaar on Saturday. Ajax remain on course to win the Eredivisie title, but Ten Hag did lose his cool with the fourth official during the contest.

Ajax are five points ahead of PSV, with a better goal difference, with just two games remaining.

But while the Dutchman’s immediate focus will be securing a third Dutch title, he will also have one eye on Manchester United.

Ten Hag will take over the reins after the visit of Crystal Palace in two weeks’ time. And the 52-year-old has plenty to work on, as well as preparing for a recruitment drive which could shape the club for years to come.

Those type of changes have been demanded by Beckham, who was watching the Grand Prix in America on Sunday.

“I think there are changes to be made and changes that are happening, we’ve seen that. It’s been a tough end to the season. But it is the end of the season, I’m sure a lot of the fans are thankful of that because it’s been a tough one – full of ups and downs,” Beckham told Sky Sports at the Miami Grand Prix.

“The players have done what they can do best, so has the manager as well. I turned up at the stadium a few months back and every seat was filled. So the fans still believe, they support, they turn up for the team.

Beckham believes in Ronaldo

“It’s what United fans do. There’s not many other teams to have gone through what they’ve gone through in the last few years and still filling out their stadium. So that says a lot about the fans. There will be changes.”

Beckham, who won six Premier League titles with United, also made his feelings known about Cristiano Ronaldo.

There have been suggestions that Ronaldo may move on this summer, despite top scoring for United with 24 goals.

Beckham though believes the Portugal star needs to stay at Old Trafford.

Beckham added: “Obviously Cristiano is one of the best players over the last 15 years, with Leo [Messi]. To see him stay on, hopefully at United, is important for the fans. It’s important to him – we all know how much Man United means to him,” Beckham said.

“He’s still doing what he does best, scoring goals. That’s what Cristiano does. To be doing what he’s doing at his age is really incredible. So hopefully it continues for another year or two.”

Chris Sutton has told Gary Neville to pipe down and accept that Antonio Conte would be a good manager for Manchester United.

Tottenham boss Conte made the headlines on Saturday when he masterminded a 1-1 draw away at Liverpool. The result had major implications for the Premier League title race and top-four battle.

Spurs’ point could prove crucial as they battle Arsenal for a place in next season’s Champions League. Liverpool, though, slipped up and allowed Manchester City to go three points clear at the summit on Sunday.

Conte’s tactics of soaking up Liverpool pressure and hitting them on the counter-attack drew plaudits but also criticism. Reds boss Jurgen Klopp insisted that Tottenham should “do more for the game”.

Neville, meanwhile, used Klopp’s frustrations as evidence for his claim that Conte would not be a good fit at Man Utd.

Writing in a column for the Daily Mail, though, Sutton hit out at both Neville and Klopp for their assessments.

“Antonio Conte was right for Manchester United when they were looking for a replacement for David Moyes in 2014,” Sutton wrote.

“For Louis van Gaal in 2016, for Jose Mourinho in 2018, for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021.

“He would be right for them now if they were still searching for a new head coach. Conte is a winner — he won the Premier League with Chelsea and Serie A with Juventus and Inter Milan.

“He knows how to get a result — just ask Liverpool and Manchester City, neither of whom could beat Tottenham this season.

“United went to Brighton on Saturday and were smashed. Would that have happened on Conte’s watch? Unlikely.”

Sutton also took a pop at Klopp, who added that he “cannot coach” the football Conte likes to play.

“Jurgen Klopp was agitated after Liverpool were held by Tottenham and had a pop at their style of play. How dare Conte not play the way Klopp wanted!” the pundit added.

Then Gary Neville sparked a social media debate on Sunday by tweeting that Conte’s style is ‘why he wasn’t the right fit for United’. Behave.

“United would be lucky to have Conte in charge.”

Conte has indeed claimed at least a point from his matches with Liverpool and Man City this season. His Tottenham side drew 2-2 with Liverpool in December and beat City 3-2 away in February.

While Neville may not want Conte to ever manage Man Utd, the Red Devils could use some of his never-say-die spirit this season.

Spurs stuck to their task for 95 minutes and Son Heung-min admitted that he felt “exhausted” after the match.

United, meanwhile, failed to muster any sort of fight in their 4-0 defeat to Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

That, coupled with a 9-0 aggregate defeat to Liverpool this season, shows the size of the task facing new United boss Erik ten Hag.

Tottenham defender Ben Davies has warned Arsenal of the pressure of maintaining their winning run in Thursday’s crunch north London derby.

Both sides have suffered varying patches of form throughout the season but now collide with a place in the Premier League’s top four potentially on the line.

Indeed, Arsenal currently occupy the final Champions League qualification place. The Gunners sit four points ahead of Tottenham following the most recent results.

Arsenal beat 10-man Leeds United 2-1 at the Emirates on Sunday, while Tottenham earned a 1-1 draw away at Liverpool on Saturday.

Arsenal are in better form heading into Thursday’s match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Mikel Arteta’s men have won four in a row. Spurs, meanwhile, have won only one of their last four including another draw and a defeat.

Davies has therefore warned Arsenal that the pressure is on them as Tottenham eye a first win in two matches.

“It’s a massive game. Look, we can only do what we can control, and Arsenal have been on a fantastic run,” the Wales international told the Daily Mirror.

“But you can’t hide from that but there is a lot of pressure to keep it up and do it in the remaining games.

“We have to control what we can, try and win the game and try to win our remaining games and even then it’s not in our hands but we will see what happens.”

Tottenham were originally due to play the upcoming derby with Arsenal in mid-January. However, the Premier League accepted the Gunners’ postponement request.

Ben Davies urges Tottenham performance

As a result, the wait for the two teams to clash again has allowed them to become fierce rivals for a top-four spot, increasing the build-up.

For Davies, though, the defender urged a similar performance to the one which got them a point at Liverpool.

Spurs set up to soak up pressure and hit the Reds on the counter-attack. They in fact took the lead through Son Heung-min before Luis Diaz’s deflected equaliser.

“It has been building up to this for a while now,” Davies said. “Ever since it got postponed we were looking to when this game would come because we knew it would be important in the context of the season.

“For us now Thursday is huge. We know what we have to do going into it. There’s no hiding from that.

“We have to go out there and put in a similar performance to the game at Liverpool.”

Arsenal dreaming of huge win

Arsenal won the first north London derby of the season at the Emirates Stadium in September.

The Gunners hit their rivals with a first-half blitz. Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka all scored inside 34 minutes, with Saka and Smith Rowe also notching assists.

However, Son hit back and is in good form of late, having scored three goals in his last two games.

What’s more, Tottenham replaced then-manager Nuno Espirito Santo with Antonio Conte in November.

Despite a slow start, Conte has got Spurs in the hunt for a top-four clash and the stakes could not be higher.

A win for Arsenal will all-but guarantee their spot in the Champions League next season. Should Tottenham win, though, the gap will be back to one with two games remaining.

The Red Devils interim boss has outlined the midfield as an area in need or urgent improvement at Old Trafford. As such, he’s handed the club, and new manager Erik ten Hag, a list of players to target.

And the man reportedly at the top of that list is RB Leipzig star Laimer.

The Austrian is well known to Rangnick, having worked together at the Bundesliga club.

And with his deal due to expire in summer 2023, Rangnick knows United have the perfect opportunity to swoop in.

Indeed, reports claim Leipzig will cash in for around £17m this summer. As such, the likes of Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal are all reportedly keen.

However, it is Manchester United who reportedly looked to be leading the charge, thanks to Rangnick’s influence.

Now though, they appear destined to miss out with The Sun reporting that Bayern Munich are launching a move.

That though has come as a bitter pill for Rangnick, who is moving into a consultancy role with United from the summer.

He though will reportedly urge the club to act fast and move in for Laimer.

“I’m sure he can make us better as a team and each individual. I’m confident that we will have very successful years together.

MAN CITY READY TO ANNOUNCE ERLING HAALAND TRANSFER

Manchester City will reportedly announce the signing of Erling Haaland as soon as next week, claims a report.

The Borussia Dortmund striker has emerged as one of the world’s most in-demand stars thanks to his incredible goalscoring exploits.

And with an exit clause coming into effect this summer for £63m, several top sides are keen to make their move.

However, it is Manchester City who are widely reported to have won that race.

They are reportedly willing to pay Haaland a huge package that will see him earn a mindblowing £300m.

Now, according to Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl, a move could be formalised next week.

Kehl told Sport1: “Erling Haaland deal? I think we will have clarity on Erling in the next week.”

TOTTENHAM HAVE CLEAR PATH FOR SAM JOHNSTONE

Tottenham are in the clear to sign Sam Johnstone this summer after Manchester United pulled out of the running for his signature.

The England goalkeeper becomes a free agent in a matter of weeks and is the target for several Premier League sides.

Indeed, West Ham, Tottenham and Johnstone’s former club, Manchester United, are all reportedly keen.

However, The Sun reports that United have now pulled out of the running thanks to the presence of David De Gea. He has watched how Dean Henderson has struggled for game time at Old Trafford and is unwilling to take a similar back seat.

As such, the paper claims a move to Tottenham is closing in, with West Ham also no longer in the frame.

He will likely become the third signing of the Antonio Conte era, and first of the summer window for Spurs.

Johnstone will be handed the chance to compete with Hugo Lloris and ultimately replace the veteran Frenchman.

Lloris recently signed an extension to 2024, but at the age of 29, he has more than enough time on his hands.

Johnstone has made 141 appearances for the Baggies across four seasons.

Anthony Elanga has lauded Erik ten Hag for his excellent track record of developing young players ahead of his move to Manchester United.

Ajax boss Ten Hag has built up a fantastic reputation for his work with the Eredivisie club both in the Netherlands and across Europe. In fact, the Dutchman took Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals before rebuilding the team.

The likes of Donny van de Beek, Hakim Ziyech and Frenkie de Jong all blossomed under Ten Hag.

However, Elanga is potentially a sign of things to come in the future. In his breakthrough season at Old Trafford, he has made 26 first-team appearances, chipping in with two goals and three assists.

The Blues have faced an uncertain few months following the sanctions on previous owner Roman Abramovich. The situation has affected every aspect of the club, from fans’ attendance to player retention.

Indeed, key centre-back Antonio Rudiger has decided to move on as a free agent to Real Madrid. He grew frustrated at waiting for Chelsea, who still cannot tie players to new deals.

However, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the Stamford Bridge club. LA Dodgers chief Boehly is leading a group who have agreed terms to take Chelsea over.

And according to the Daily Mail, player contracts will subsequently be high on the investment agenda.

Right wing-back James has made himself a crucial part of manager Thomas Tuchel’s system. Attacking midfielder Mount has scored 12 goals and assisted 15 others in 50 appearances this season.

Boehly plans key Chelsea talks

The Daily Mail adds that Boehly will pursue ‘A-list’ signings this summer.

At least one new centre-back is a key transfer mission, with Andreas Christensen leaving alongside Rudiger.

Boehly will in fact begin work on Chelsea’s summer spending this week. He will first look to meet with Tuchel to get the coach’s thoughts.

Boehly will also ask current transfer chief Marina Granovskaia and technical advisor Petr Cech for advice.

Blues need to get back on track

Chelsea came into the current season full of optimism following their Champions League triumph last season.

And they looked firm Premier League title challengers alongside Manchester City and Liverpool in the first few weeks of the season.

While the developments in Russia and Ukraine – and how they have affected Chelsea – could not have been predicted, the Blues need to refocus.

They can start by winning the FA Cup final next weekend, their second cup final clash of the campaign against Liverpool.

Tottenham Hotspur are set to win the race to sign out-of-contract West Brom goalkeeper Sam Johnstone this summer, according to a report.

The England international decided to run down his contract at the Hawthorns, making him available for free once the season has ended. A number of clubs were said to be interested, including Manchester United. However, it seems another top six club is now favourite to land the shot-stopper.

According to The Mirror, Spurs are set to sign Johnstone once his contract is finished.

The north London club are in need of some quality back-up for Hugo Lloris. Approaching 36 years of age, reinforcement is needed for someone who could take first-choice spot in the not-so-distant future.

Tottenham‘s current back-up is Pierluigi Gollini, who has been restricted to cup games this season. What’s more, he is only on loan from Atalanta and is unlikely to stay in London.

However, Spurs chairman Daniel Levy views Johnstone as someone with higher quality that can go head-to-head with Lloris for a spot in the team.

Johnstone has spent the last four years with West Brom and has been consistent between the sticks throughout.

However, he was left out the Baggies squad for the last five games of the season. Boss Steve Bruce decided to stand down the England keeper, accepting he would leave at the end of the season.

“With five games left, it’s only right that David Button plays,” Bruce told BBC Sport.

There had been rumours that Man Utd were keen on landing Johnstone for free.

The keeper was first-choice for United’s academy in 2011, however, failed to make a league appearance for the club.

Now, it is believed his former club have pulled out the race for his signature. The board at Man Utd are believed to be happy with David De Gea and Dean Henderson already on their books.

The club believe that recruiting in other positions during the summer should be seen as more of a priority.

Leeds United will struggle to cope if they lose Kalvin Phillips this summer and fail to sign a suitable replacement, according to Jermaine Beckford.

The Whites’ talisman enjoyed a successful first season of Premier League football with his boyhood club. In fact, the 26-year-old was vital in seeing Leeds finish ninth. They also tallied one of the highest points totals of a newly-promoted team.

However, the situation has completely changed this season. Injuries to Phillips and other key stars such as Patrick Bamford have hit Leeds hard. As such, they now find themselves in a relegation battle.

Relegation for Leeds would prove hard to stomach so soon after ending their 16-year wait to return to the top flight.

Furthermore, former Whites star Beckford has warned about the potential loss of Phillips by suffering the drop. However, the 38-year-old insisted that the midfielder has unfinished business at Elland Road.

Beckford told the Sunday Mirror: “For me, Kalvin’s future comes down to whether Leeds are in the Premier League next season – as long as they are – I can’t see a reason for him to leave – just yet.

“He’s in the national team, he’s playing in the Premier League for a team he loves and for a team where he is loved.

“Let’s be fair, this is only his second season at this level and he has not completed a full campaign through injury. Financially, he’s on a decent deal and I understand there are discussions to extend that.

“Ultimately, there will come a point where he has a decision to make, particularly if he wants to play Champions League football. But if he is progressing and Leeds are, then I think he will stay for one more season at least.

“That will give the club time to grow and possibly make plans because how would Leeds cope with that loss?”

Phillips has himself insisted that he remains “happy” at Leeds and is committed to Jesse Marsch’s team.

Beckford added that “natural-born leader” Phillips gives others around him “creative freedom” because his footballing intelligence levels are “so high”.

Amid the focus on Phillips’ future at Leeds, the Elland Road club could yet lose Raphinha this summer.

The Brazil international has proved a masterstroke signing following his arrival from Rennes in 2020.

Since then, he has become the talisman in attack. Indeed, he leads the scoring charts at Leeds this season with 10 goals.

Reports have claimed that Raphinha could leave for a lower fee if Leeds suffer relegation. Barcelona are supposedly after the 25-year-old.

The Portugal international has proved one of the only shining lights at Old Trafford this season. Indeed, Saturday’s 4-0 defeat to Brighton took United to 56 goals conceded this season – a club record in the Premier League era.

What’s more, the Red Devils will now go on to record their lowest-ever points tally since the top flight’s reformation.

At the other end, though, Ronaldo’s 24 goals in 39 games have stopped the club’s situation getting worse.

Amid Man Utd‘s now highly likely failure to make the top four and next season’s Champions League, speculation has surfaced about whether Ronaldo will stay.

According to the Sunday Mirror, though, club icon Ferguson has asked the striker to stay for the second year of the two-year deal he signed last summer from Juventus.

United and Ronaldo have the option of extending for a further year to cover the 2023/24 season. However, the focus for now is on next term as new manager Erik ten Hag prepares to step in.

The newspaper adds that Ronaldo has held a ‘series of private meetings’ with former manager Ferguson over his Old Trafford future.

West Ham are on course to win the transfer race for in-demand Blackburn striker Ben Brereton Diaz, a report has claimed.

The Hammers have sought a new signing up top ever since Sebastien Haller left last January. The Ivory Coast star struggled to fit in in east London but has now hit goalscoring heights with Ajax.

Back at West Ham, Jarrod Bowen has stepped up to become an even greater threat across the front line. However, the England hopeful and Michail Antonio need support up top.

According to The Sun on Sunday, the Hammers therefore lead the race for Chile international Diaz.

The 23-year-old’s contract was initially set to run out this summer. However, the newspaper reports that Rovers will use their one-year option to keep him at the club.

Marcos Alonso has reportedly decided to leave Chelsea for Barcelona to follow in his father’s footsteps.

The Blues left-back initially developed in Real Madrid’s academy and moved to Stamford Bridge from Fiorentina in 2016.

But after six years in London, his future is unclear. He is also preparing to enter the final year of his Chelsea contract.

Reports in the past few weeks have claimed that Alonso has his heart set on moving back to Spain.

Furthermore, a move to Barcelona is his priority and negotiations are ongoing. According to The Mirror, Alonso’s big reason for wanting to move to Barca is to try to emulate his father.

Marcos Alonso Pena played for the Camp Nou club between 1982 and 1987 as an attacking midfielder and made 161 appearances for the club.

What’s more, he picked up 22 Spain caps in his career and so wants to take on the inspiration he has gained from his father.

And on Saturday, Brighton put another nail in Man Utd‘s coffin for their campaign with a 4-0 win.

The Seagulls opened the scoring after 15 minutes through Moises Caicedo. However, Marc Cucurella, Pascal Gross and Leandro Trossard added to the misery for United – and to the delight for Brighton.

Fernandes told Sky Sports of the humiliating evening for the Red Devils: “The result is what it is. It is not good enough.

“They outplayed us. They always had a solution. Pressed us better and they deserved the result.

“A little bit of everything [went wrong]. Quality. Mentality. They deserved to win and we deserve to be in the position we are in now.

“It’s something that we have to look and be embarrassed because that was not good enough from us and we have to do much better.”

The travelling United fans at the Amex Stadium subsequently chanted “You’re not fit to wear the shirt” at the players.

When asked about the chant, the Portugal midfielder added: “I include myself in that. What we did today, what I did today, was not enough to be in a Man Utd shirt and I accept it.”

Graeme Souness, however, insisted that only goalkeeper David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo look anything like Man Utd players.

Goalkeeper De Gea has made the second-most number of saves in the Premier League this season. Ronaldo, meanwhile, has netted 24 goals in 39 games.

“You’d like to think you’ll get honesty from the players,” Souness told Sky Sports in his own assessment.

“You’ll like to think the players are playing for their futures at that club because there must be question marks over so many of them.

“So many have underperformed, we know they’re better. But it’s okay us saying that, but they have to go out and do it.

“Near enough to a man, Ronaldo’s chipped in with goals and the goalkeeper [De Gea], maybe. Other than that, you’re struggling to find anyone that you would say are anything like a Man Utd player.”

United have suffered another sub-par season overall – but only now will the realisation truly set in.

Indeed, the defeat to Brighton means the Red Devils will record their worst-ever points total in a Premier League season.

Tielemans has long been linked and according to reports in the Sun, Arsenal are close to doing a deal. The 25-year-old has just over a year remaining on his current contract.

There is no sign of him penning a new one and the summer is the last real chance for Leicester to cash in and get the big money they think he is worth. The Foxes are tipped to cash in on at least one big name this summer. And Tielemans will be easy to move on such is the amount of interest.

Manchester United, Juventus and Real Madrid are all said to be in the hunt. But it is the Gunners who are leading the race. The Sun report that as long as Champions League football is achieved, he will sign.

The former Monaco ace has made it clear he wants to play in the Champions League. Should Arsenal miss out, the door will open for Real Madrid.

Los Blancos, who inflicted Champions League heartbreak on Manchester City in midweek, want a new midfielder. Tielemans is an option and they are keeping an eye on developments.

So much is riding on Arsenal’s final four games of the season starting with Leeds on Sunday. After Tottenham drew 1-1 with Liverpool on Saturday, they are in the box seat. A win over Leeds will hand them a four-point lead over Spurs with three games to go.

Tielemans ticks all the boxes as far as a good midfield signing is concerned. If the Gunners get a deal over the line they have a top player. He is a definite upgrade on Elneny and Xhaka.

The Belgium international is a class act and has proven he can shine in the Premier League. This season alone he has chipped in with seven goals and four assists.  He has made 153 appearances in all competitions for the Foxes scoring 24 goals.

£40million also represents good value for a 25-year-old with his best years ahead of him. Now it looks as though Arsenal just need to stay in fourth to get the deal done.

Paul Merson has explained why he thinks Liverpool will prove too strong for Real Madrid in the Champions League final – and has cast his thoughts on how many trophies the Reds will win this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are through to a third Champions League final in five seasons, having overcome a pretty stiff test of nerves in midweek. That’s after seeing a 2-0 lead wiped out by a resurgent Villarreal side, though Luis Diaz stepped off the bench to save the Reds.

That 3-2 win sealed a 5-2 aggregate triumph and sets up Mohamed Salah to get his shot at redemption. To that end, the Egyptian King has sent Los Blancos a fierce message ahead of their Paris showdown.

Now Merson reckons Liverpool, and Salah, will prove too strong for Carlo Ancelotti’s troops. They have outwitted Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City to reach the final. As such, some reckon the manner of those dramatic triumphs means their names are on the cup.

However, Merson reckons Liverpool will have win the famour trophy for a seventh time. He also reckons City’s shock loss to Real Madrid will also have a catastrophic effect on the Premier League title race.

“The quadruple is well and truly on for Liverpool now because I don’t know how Manchester City pick themselves up after this week’s disaster,” Merson told the Daily Star.

“What happened to City against Real Madrid, I’ve never seen anything like it. They were as comfortable as it gets and then… wow. Rattle someone sometimes and they break. That’s what happened to City. They had the Champions League final in their hands and threw it away.

“This affects them hugely now. I don’t know how they recover against Newcastle this weekend. And Liverpool play first at home to Tottenham so they have the chance to crank up the pressure even more. Liverpool will beat Real Madrid. They won’t mess about. They will have too much for them in the Champions League final.”

Merson fears Chelsea may dent quadruple bid

Liverpool, of course, also have the FA Cup final next weekend and could land part two of their historic quadruple bid at Wembley.

And Merson now reckons Thomas Tuchel’s side present the biggest threat to Liverpool’s bid to claim all four trophies.

“Chelsea in the FA Cup final is the harder game for them in my opinion. The last three times they’ve played each other the game’s ended in a draw. And let’s face it, Chelsea should have won the Carabao Cup Final. They were the better team.

“But both those finals are winnable, and if City slip up this weekend the Premier League title is all but Liverpool’s.”

We will soon know if Merson’s predictions are right, but if anything, losing to Real Madrid will surely sharpen City’s minds.

Yes, that was a catastrophic loss given the circumstances, but facing Real Madrid is another level to Newcastle.

As such, it seems more likely Liverpool win three of the four trophies on offer, with perhaps the Premier League title the one to elude them.

Meanwhile, Klopp has named the six Liverpool teammates who have helped Luis Diaz settle in, but jokes: “I don’t know how they talk!“

Leeds United winger Raphinha has reportedly decided on where he will play his football next season – and will look to force the issue once the Whites’ battle to beat the drop has been concluded.

The Brazilian star has emerged as one of European football’s most sought-after stars. An excellent season with Leeds has seen him score 10 goals and make three more – not bad going for a side struggling at the wrong end of the table. And while Raphinha’s form has dropped off in recent months, he still very much remains a man in huge demand.

Indeed, he is being linked with several big-name sides this summer. Bayern Munich were the first to be linked, while Liverpool and Chelsea are also being touted as potential options.

However, perhaps the loudest whispers have come from Barcelona, with their interest in the Brazil winger widely documented.

Their coach Xavi is reportedly a huge fan of the player, with his friendship with the player’s agent, Deco, also strengthening their chances.

Now Spanish daily Sport has a major update on the transfer saga.

They claim Raphinha has decided that he wants to play for Barcelona next season and will do all in his power to ‘force the move’.

Keen to finish at Leeds on a high note

However, they claim that Raphinha is extremely grateful to Leeds and will not rock the boat until the season has concluded. That’s because they state the winger is ‘extremely grateful’ to the Whites for helping take his career to the next level.

They report that Raphinha is grateful to Leeds for bringing him to the Premier League and highlighting his abilities to a worldwide audience. Furthermore, he knows that without Leeds, he would not be in a position to sign for Barcelona in the first instance.

As such, Raphinha is ready to put his heart and soul into ensuring Leeds end the season still as a Premier League club. Furthermore, he wants to pay the club back in the best way possible by helping them to safety.

Leeds are currently in a scrap for safety with Burnley and Everton also firmly in the mix.

And with four games left of Leeds’ season, they will need Raphinha firing on all cylinders.

Barcelona ‘reserving a role’ for Raphinha

The report states that Barcelona already have a role reserved for  the winger in their side next season. Indeed, Xavi wants Raphinha to play on the right of their attack and will grant him that ‘leading role’ next season.

The move is reportedly in Deco’s capable hands to finalise. Sport claims he is the ‘leading figure’ and influencer to the transfer and that he is the man who first put Raphinha’s name on the table for the Spanish giants.

They conclude he will do everything in his power to ensure the move goes through.

Quite what the price will be, however, remains to be seen.

They state Barcelona are willing to go as high as £34.1m (€40m), though Leeds, understandably, rate the player far higher.

However, were Leeds to go down, they may lose the player for even less due to an apparent relegation clause in his contract.

City came agonisingly close to making it to the Champions League final in midweek. They were just minutes away, before a Rodrygo brace for Real Madrid took it to extra time, where City were beaten.

The first leg saw City overcome Real 4-3 in an absolute goal fest, where four separate City men scored, including Gabriel Jesus.

Between the European games, the Citizens put four goals past Leeds United, and four players found their way to the scoresheet yet again in the victory, with Jesus hitting the back of the net yet again.

Before that, City beat Watford 5-1, with Jesus netting an incredible four goals. The game prior, City won 3-0 against mid-table Brighton.

Guardiola has kept his cards close to his chest regarding his selection for the next game. He did admit that he “didn’t speak” to his players, though.

With Jesus in such good form, it would be a surprise if he was not included from the start again this weekend.

Ederson started in net. The full-back positions were occupied by Kyle Walker – who appeared to aggravate a previous injury – and Joao Cancelo.

Ruben Dias played alongside Aymeric Laporte at centre-back – he looked to be struggling with cramp, but Guardiola did not mention his fitness.

Kevin De Bruyne played with Rodri and Bernardo Silva in midfield.

In-form Jesus was flanked by goalscorer Riyad Mahrez and Phil Foden.

Predicted Man City team against Newcastle

Ederson will likely remain in net. Cancelo could move to right-back amid Walker’s injury troubles, with Zinchenko coming in at left-back.

Dias and Laporte could remain in the centre of the defence, should the latter be fit. If not, Stones may return, though there have been question marks over his own fitness.

De Bruyne and Rodri could remain in midfield. Ilkay Gundogan may join them, giving Silva a rest after 120 minutes against Real.

Jesus, following seven goals in his last six games, will likely start in attack. Mahrez could play alongside him, as he was a bright spark in the week. Jack Grealish could replace Foden, given he also played the full 120.

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has underlined his commitment to the club and has stressed his wish to continue playing for his hometown club.

The homegrown star is one of Leeds’ most sought-after players. Having come through the ranks at Elland Road, the 26-year-old has established himself as a regular for club and country. Indeed, having been named England’s Player of the Year, Phillips is, understandably, a man in demand.

And given his contract at Leeds is due to expire in 2023, it’s little surprise to see his name taking up plenty of column inches of late.

West Ham were the first side to make their move, seeing a £50m January approach failing. The England man is also high on Newcastle and Aston Villa’s radars. Both sides are looking to add his passing range and tenacity for a tackle to their midfield.

However, Manchester United have also been strongly linked, though a report has outlined three reasons why that move cannot happen.

Either way, Leeds are seemingly playing a risky game over Phillips’ future. Talks over an extension are on hold until Leeds’ Premier League fate is known. With four matches left, United are firmly in the survival scrap alongside Everton and Burnley.

Whatever the future lies, Phillips has underlined his desire to stay at Leeds.

“I’ve made my intentions clear that I want to be at Leeds and I’ll focus on that until my contract ends,” Phillips told BBC West Yorkshire Sport.

“It’s always been something that I’m not really worried about. It’s always been something I’ve been confident in. There’s always going to be noise when you’re an England international and you’re playing for one of the biggest teams in the country.

“Until the end of the season, I’ll be happy at Leeds and I always will be.”

Kalvin Phillips focused on Leeds survival

Phillips’ immediate and sole priority right now is ensuring Leeds get the results needed to survive in the Premier League.

After 16 years in the wilderness, it would be a bitter pill to swallow if the club went down after just two seasons back.

However, they are in decent form with Leeds suffering just one defeat  – last time out to Man City in their last six games.

Addressing the changes new boss Jesse Marsch has made, Phillips added: “He’s giving us the confidence to play and get the results we need.

“There’s been lots to take in, since I’ve got back [from injury]. But he’s been good and had a very positive impact on the group.

“It’s a tough part of the season now. If we don’t get the results we need there’s a possibility we could get relegated.

“That’s not in my mind though. I’m just taking it a game at a time and trying to play the way I’ve always played. I want to be aggressive and help the team as much as possible. That’s what I’ll do until the last game of the season.”

Leeds need star at his best

United will need Kalvin Phillips back to his best as soon as possible if Leeds are to get the results they need to survive. He has looked slightly uncomfortable in the double midfield pivot Marsch has asked him to play in so far.

However, he will need to find his range quickly ahead of a huge week.

Leeds face Arsenal away on Sunday, before crucial home games with Chelsea and Brighton on Wednesday and Sunday week.

Their season concludes with a trip to face Brentford on May 22.

Quite how many points will be needed to survive remains uncertain. As it stands, Leeds are currently on on 34 points, with many suggesting it may need at least 40. As such, Leeds will hope their big players stand up and make it count when they need them most.

Should they survive, Leeds are reportedly considering a fresh move for a Burnley star who has long been a target.

Tottenham are reportedly ready to listen for offers for as many as eight first-team players this summer as they look to appease boss Antonio Conte and keep him at the club.

The Italian has made it abundantly clear that his first-team squad needs an overhaul if Spurs are to challenge for major honours under his management. However, there have been question marks over whether Daniel Levy will commit to such a strategy.

French giants PSG have been tipped to swoop for Conte, if they decide to part company with Mauricio Pochettino.

That, in turn, has led to rumours of Tottenham already lining up a replacement in the shape of Brighton chief Graham Potter.

However, in order to try and keep Conte away from potential suitors, the London Evening Standard claims that sporting director Fabio Paratici will take a ruthless approach to transfer dealings this summer – and that spells trouble for a number of Spurs players.

The report adds Paratici is aware of the club’s previous failure to get rid of highly paid fringe players. However, he will only do so at the right price.

The first names mentioned for the exit door are forward Steven Bergwijn and Harry Winks.

Netherlands star Bergwijn almost returned to his homeland in January but Conte opted to keep him around.

That proved to be a wise decision, with the winger popping up with some crucial goals off the bench. However, he remains a fringe player at best and Tottenham know they can fetch good money for him.

Big-name midfield trio set for exit

As for Winks, the England man will be well down the midfield pecking order once Oliver Skipp returns next season and there will be no shortage of interest in his signature.

Giovani Lo Celso, a favourite with the Tottenham fans, will also likely be offloaded. The Argentine is currently enjoying a successful loan spell at Champions League semi-finalists Villarreal. A full-time move back to Spain would not come as a surprise at all.

Record signing Tanguy Ndombele is next on the list and that will not come as a great surprise.

The enigmatic Frenchman has never fulfilled his potential in north London. He is also currently struggling a little on loan at Lyon.

The club’s former record buy Davinson Sanchez also appears to be on his way. He’s not featured since Conte decided on Cristian Romero, Eric Dier and Ben Davies as his back three.

Sergio Reguilon could also be on the chopping block after failing to convince Conte of his qualities. Real Madrid could active their buy-back clause on the left-back, while Atletico Madrid are also keen.

Rodon never given a chance

A player who’s not done much wrong when called upon is Joe Rodon. The Wales international is a quality performer but just cannot force his way into Conte’s thinking.

The final pair mentioned in the report are attacker Lucas Moura and right-back Matt Doherty.

Brazilian Moura was first-choice before Dejan Kulusevski arrived from Juventus in January.

The Swede has been a revelation, but Moura was given a chance to show his qualities again in the recent win over Leicester after Kulusevksi was dropped. However, he failed to take in a disappointing display and was hauled off. And that could have been the final straw for Conte.

Another player who could deem himself a little unlucky is full-back Doherty. The Republic of Ireland star has been much improved under Conte, either playing on the right or left.

However, he suffered an injury at just the wrong time and Conte will likely upgrade the wing-back position.

Eight to go leaves Paratici work to do

Offloading all eight of those players could fetch anything between £150-200m in an ideal world. However, we don’t leave in an ideal world and the likelihood of that big an overhaul of the Tottenham squad in one summer window appears extremely unlikely.

Conte and Paratici will likely add two new wing-backs, a centre-back, a central midfielder and another striker to back-up Harry Kane. But that is likely to be it in terms on incomings, so selling eight players does seem steep and would weaken the overall squad.

We would certainly expect the likes of Ndombele, Lo Celso, Winks, Rodon and potentially Sanchez to go. However, the other names mentioned are all strong squad options for Conte and fairly useful to call on when required.

Erik ten Hag wants two strikers signed this summer for Manchester United having made his position clear on Cristiano Ronaldo, Manchester City are chasing a Barcelona star, while Saturday’s transfer gossip claims West Ham are chasing a Chelsea striker.

TEN HAG WANTS RONALDO TO STAY AND DUO TO JOIN HIM

Erik ten Hag has reportedly decided that he wants Cristiano Ronaldo to stay at Manchester United next season.

The Portuguese star has found himself the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks. Indeed, despite scoring 24 goals in 37 appearances this season, there are some who argue his style and performances have held United back.

Furthermore, there are doubts he would be willing to stay around if United, as expected, fail to secure Champions League football next season.

That follows claims that Ronaldo will accept whatever decision Ten Hag makes about his future 100 per cent.

However, the Daily Telegraph claims Ten Hag is desperate to retain the services of the 37-year-old and plans to build his side around him.

That said, there will be attacking reinforcements brought in and Ten Hag is reportedly looking to two other additions this summer.

Firstly, the Daily Express claims United are exploring the possibility of a deal for Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez.

The Argentine has struck 23 times this season and is on a contract to 2026.

However, Inter may be forced to wheel and deal this summer and the paper claims a swap deal with Anthony Martial could be struck.

With Inter valuing Martinez at around the £70m mark, United would need to send Inter around £35m in addition to Martial.

United also stepping up Hugo Ekitike interest

United are also reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Hugo Ekitike.

The France Under-20 striker came close to joining Newcastle in a £25m deal in January.

However, Reims accept he is likely to leave this summer.

Reports on Friday mentioned United with a move for the Reims star this summer.

Now, the Daily Mail claims Ten Hag has ordered United to ramp up their pursuit of the 19-year-old.

The Dutchman is seemingly a massive fan of the teenager and reckons he is destined for a big future.

Widespread reports claim Ten Hag wants two new strikers this season – and to operate with a three-man attack next season.

And if the reports are accurate, Manchester United could line up with Ekitike, Martinez and Ronaldo next season.

MAN CITY TO SWAP BERNARDO SILVA FOR FRENKIE DE JONG

Manchester City are warming to the idea of swapping Bernardo Silva for Frenkie de Jong this summer, claims a report.

The Blues are still reeling from seeing their place in the Champions League final slip from their grasp. Wednesday’s dramatic late collapse against Real Madrid means it is the Spaniards who face Liverpool in the final.

For City, planning for next season is already underway, with Pep Guardiola keen to strengthen his ranks.

And finding a replacement for Fernandinho in midfield will be one of his top focuses.

Now Mundo Deportivo claims a swap deal for De Jong and Silva could come around.

The Dutch midfielder is a big part of Barcelona’s plans, but has struggled for his best form at times this season. And while settled under new boss Xavi, he could be sacrificed in return for Silva.

The Portuguese attacking midfielder has played his way back into Guardiola’s plans this season off the back of a great season.

However, with Barca open to a swap, he too could be sacrificed in exchange for De Jong.

The story is backed up by The Sun, who claims Manchester City will make De Jong, Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez his three signings this summer.

City are also being linked with a free-transfer move for Paul Pogba.

WEST HAM READY TO BREAK THE BANK FOR BROJA

West Ham are looking to spend big money to sign Armando Broja from Chelsea this summer, claims a report.

The powerful striker has caught the eye during a season’s loan with Southampton.

However, his future remains very much up for debate with a place in the Chelsea attack seemingly unlikely.

And with Saints unlikely to convince the Albanian to make the move permanent, a move to West Ham looks to be on the cards.

Moyes has fashioned an exciting side at the London Stadium. Their run to the Europa League semi-finals emphasis this.

But the one area they fall short is in attack with only Michail Antonio an option.

Now The Sun claims a move for Broja is on the cards.

Moyes is seemingly a big fan and is ready to spend big to land the 20-year-old.

Broja has nine goals in 36 appearances for Saints this season.

Napoli are also considering a move for Broja as a replacement for in-demand Victor Osimhen.
