Leeds are considering a move for Manchester United winger Daniel James late in the transfer window, according to a report.
James has endured a mixed start to life at United after joining from Swansea last summer. While he featured regularly for much of last season, he lost his place after the coronavirus lockdown.
That lack of game time has continued into the new campaign, with the Wales international not featuring in Saturday’s squad against Brighton.
James’ move to United came after a deal with Leeds last January spectacularly collapsed. And while the Whites reportedly retain an interest in the 22-year-old, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen for him to stay.
According to a fresh report from the Manchester Evening News, Leeds’ interest in the winger has not waned.
In fact, the club’s chief executive, Angus Kinnear, reportedly conducted a fresh scouting mission on the player last week.
The lifelong Luton fan travelled to the Carabao Cup clash between the Championship side and United but obtained a scout’s pass.
James though was an unused substitute by Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in his side’s 3-0 win.
Nevertheless, the MEN reports that Kinnear’s presence means the Whites are considering another move for James.
The Welshman is likely to “resist” a loan move, the newspaper adds. James feels he can earn guaranteed game time if Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial or Marcus Rashford suffer injury or suspension.
James detailed his initial anger and shock at his failed move to Leeds. The Hull-born winger initially saw the switch to Elland Road as an ideal way to stay close to his family.
Man Utd in winger chase
The speculation over James’ future comes as United hunt a fresh winger signing before the looming transfer deadline.
United have until next Monday to seal a deal for top target Jadon Sancho. However Watford’s Ismaila Sarr has emerged as a serious alternative to the Borussia Dortmund winger.
What’s more, the Red Devils would have until October 16 to negotiate with Watford as part of an extended transfer window allowing for trades between Premier League and EFL clubs.
