Manchester United are planning a fresh approach to sign a midfield target next year, while a former Liverpool man could be on his way to Celtic in the coming days, according to Friday’s newspapers.
MAN UTD TO GO BACK IN FOR LONGSTAFF IN NEXT YEAR
Manchester United remain keen on Sean Longstaff and could look to sign the Newcastle midfielder some time next year, according to reports.
The Magpies midfielder was the subject of a failed £25million approach from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side this summer as Newcastle stuck to their guns and insisted their homegrown product was not for sale.
However, despite their transfer miss, ESPN, via the Daily Express, claims United plan to monitor the player’s development and will make a concerted push to sign him during the next transfer windows.
And while a summer 2020 swoop looks most likely, reports have not ruled out a fresh move from the Red Devils in January once Solskjaer has assessed his squad this season.
It is, however, reported that United will have to double their initial £25m approach for the 21-year-old if they are to land Longstaff at the second time of asking.
It’s also reported that, in the meantime, Newcastle plan to reward Longstaff with a huge new contract in a bid to reflect both his progress and to ward off a future approach for United.
