Fernando Llorente could still yet have a future at Tottenham despite his contract expiring at the end of next month.
Spurs have missed a deadline in his current deal to extend it by a further year – but Sky Sports have reported that they are still considering talks with the 34-year-old over fresh terms.
Llorente, who has previously admitted that he would like to stay, is now free to speak to other teams, however, and has been attracting interest from clubs in Spain and Italy after impressing as cover for the injured Harry Kane.
The likes of his former club Athletic Bilbao, as well as AC Milan have both been mentioned as potential destinations for Llorente, who was also mentioned as a target for Leeds back in January.
Discussing Llorente’s future earlier this year, Pochettino said: “Of course, it’s difficult because [Harry] Kane is one of the best strikers in the world and for any strikers it’s going to be tough to compete and for him it is a massive boost.
“We try to rotate and give some rest to some players that needed to rest.”
The former Spain international joined Tottenham from Swansea in the summer of 2017 and has since scored 13 goals in all competitions for the north London club, eight of which have come this season along with five assists.
Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino are expected to deal with their transfers and contracts business after the Champions League final against Liverpool in Madrid on June 1, as they get set for a busy summer of activity – having failed to sign a single player in the last two windows.
One player who won’t be on his way to Spurs, however, is Wilfried Zaha after they baulked over his large transfer fee. Read the full story here…
