Chelsea fear Liverpool and Manchester City could take advantage of their current sanctions by swooping for midfielder Mason Mount, while Sunday’s transfer gossip also suggests that Cristiano Ronaldo is set for another big reunion this summer.
PREM RIVALS TO MOUNT OFFER FOR CHELSEA STAR
Chelsea are reportedly growing concerned that Mason Mount could be lured away by Liverpool or Manchester City, as they look to take advantage of the club’s ownership crisis.
The England midfielder is one of Blues’ lowest paid players on around £70,000 a week.
Mount only just two years left on his deal and sanctions are preventing the club from offering him a new contract.
And, according to the Sun on Sunday, Premier League title rivals Liverpool and City are watching closely as concerns grow at Chelsea that Mount could be tempted away by a more lucrative contract.
Anfield chief Jurgen Klopp has publicly spoken of his admiration for the Blues star, while Pep Guardiola is also known to be another admirer.
Mount’s current deal was signed back in 2019, before he had played in the Chelsea first team.
Chelsea plans hit by sanctions
The Stamford Bridge outfit were planning to open talks over a lucrative long-term deal before former owner Roman Abramovich was hit by government sanctions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
However, even if he was to commit to the Blues, the report adds that he would still not be among the club’s top earners – given that he is an academy graduate.
The Sun does adds that neither Liverpool or City are likely to make a summer offer for the player. The report adds that the duo are more likely to wait and see what Mount’s contract situation is like in the autumn and then prepare a strike in the new year.
SURPRISE RONALDO RETURN MOOTED
Cristiano Ronaldo could make a sensational return to Real Madrid this summer – with the Spanish giants increasingly keen on a reunion with the Portuguese star, according to the Daily Mirror.
The 37-year-old has been the standout performer in a hugely disappointing Manchester United campaign after signing from Juventus for a bargain £12.85 million last summer. Despite United’s woeful form, Ronaldo has scored 23 goals – 17 in the Premier League.
His performances in England have certainly caused a stir in Madrid, with the report adding that key Bernabeu want a Ronaldo return – given that he will guarantee goals.
Despite penning a two-year United deal with the option of another so much has changed since Ronaldo’s return.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked and replaced by interim boss Ralf Rangnick, while Ajax chief Erik ten Hag will take over in the summer.
That has led to rumours Ronaldo does not fit into Ten Hag’s style of play and will be moved on.
With that in mind, Real are ready to strike to bring back one of their favourite sons.
REGUILON TIPPED FOR REAL REUNION
Sergio Reguilon is expected to be back playing for Real Madrid again next season, following reports on Sunday.
The Tottenham left-back has failed to hold down a regular starting spot since Antonio Conte’s arrival at the club.
That has led to rumours that Real will exercise their £33million buyback option on the Spain international.
The newly-crowned LaLiga champions reportedly want a challenger for Ferland Mendy’s position, and Reguilon fits the bill.
TodoFichajes states that Real are prepared to pay the buyback fee, which is around £7million more than Spurs forked out for the player.
Reguilon’s proposed exit is likely to lead to Conte moving for a new left-back top challenge Ryan Sessegnon for the wing-back role.
