Napoli are planning on selling Kalidou Koulibaly this summer, but Bayern Munich want to beat the likes of Liverpool to his signature, according to a report.
The Senegal international has remained one of Europe’s most-watched centre-backs for some time now.
In recent seasons, several Premier League clubs have entertained links with a swoop. Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all supposedly held interest in the past.
City reportedly considered a move before bringing in Ruben Dias last summer.
Napoli president Aurelio di Laurentiis insisted last summer that top clubs could snap Koulibaly up – if they offered €100million (£86million).
According to Il Matino, however, the landscape over the 29-year-old’s exit fee has changed.
The report claims that Napoli want a ‘clean cut in salaries’ amid the cost of the pandemic on the club.
But while offloading other players in their squad could help, shifting Koulibaly’s €7million (£6million) yearly salary will make the most difference.
The centre-back has eaten into another year of his contract and Napoli are now reportedly willing to sell him for a cut-price fee.
Il Matino does not give a price indication, but states that Bayern Munich have readied a €45million (£39million) offer.
The German champions have agreed a deal with RB Leipzig to bring in Dayot Upamecano this summer. However, they reportedly want more mettle in their defence.
Indeed, doubt has emerged over Niklas Sule’s future. The 25-year-old’s contract expires next summer and Chelsea supposedly have a strong interest in him.
What’s more, Bayern are supposedly aware that Koulibaly remains on the radar for Liverpool and United.
As such, nipping in and landing the player would prove a good deal after doing the same with Upamecano.
Liverpool reportedly eyeing Wijnaldum replacement
Meanwhile, Liverpool could also be looking to replace Georginio Wijnaldum in this summer’s transfer window.
The Dutchman is into the final few months of his Anfield deal, but no signs of an extension have emerged.
As such, a Ligue 1 star has reportedly entered the Reds’ radar as a potential replacement.
