The £7.25m recruit from Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 joined Saints on loan until the end of the season on Monday night. Liverpool must have circulated the forward’s availability and then sanctioned the move after Minamino had become lost at the fringes of Liverpool’s attack. The Japan international has only started 12 games since his arrival a little over 12 months ago. And despite the Reds’ usual front three not firing in recent weeks, he has only played seven minutes of Premier League action since scoring in the 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace. Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp was brutally honest when assessing Minamino’s exit. “Well, he’s not done it at Liverpool, has he?” said Redknapp. “If Liverpool fancied him they wouldn’t have let him go. “They wouldn’t be letting players go out on loan if they weren’t any use to the squad. Saints welcome Minamino “If he [Klopp] felt that he was of any use then he would have kept him there.
