The future of Everton striker Moise Kean is still in question as he continues his productive loan spell with Paris Saint-Germain.
Kean struggled to live up to expectations after joining Everton from Juventus in 2019. He managed just four goals in his first season in English football.
The Italian striker has already shattered that tally with PSG, whom he joined on a season-long loan in the summer transfer window. So far, he has 14 goals from 26 games for the French champions.
There has already been much speculation about what the future will hold for Kean after this season. He is still under contract with Everton until 2024.
Reports have suggested that Everton will wait until the end of the season to make a decision about Kean. It is unclear yet if PSG will try to buy him in a permanent deal.
Now, the Ligue 1 giants’ sporting director Leonardo has echoed that sentiment, explaining why they could only sign him on loan originally.
“The truth is that it was the only possible formula,” Leonardo told France Blue. “And I thought it could be a positive thing to have Kean available for a year.
“Today, it’s difficult to say what his future will be. We will see towards the end of the season.
“Today it’s very complicated to know how it will go, but Kean certainly has a great future ahead of him.”
Ancelotti also unsure about Kean
Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti has also left Kean’s future up in the air. Last month, he claimed that he would be happy to have the soon-to-be 21-year-old back if he wanted to return to Goodison Park.
“He is scoring a lot of goals, he shows his quality. He is our player and he will be back in June,” Ancelotti told Sky Sports News. “All the time we have to take into consideration what the player thinks because the players are human.
“If the player wants to come back we will be happy to have him, if the player wants to stay with Paris Saint-Germain, we have to talk with Paris Saint-Germain.
“Whatever the player likes, I don’t want a player back who is not happy to come [back]. If the player is happy to come, he is welcome back.”
