Manchester United are readying a surprise midfielder signing this summer – with a swap deal a possibility – while Everton are looking to bring in a Juventus star, according to Wednesday’s transfer gossip.
MAN UTD CHASE DEAL FOR VALVERDE
Manchester United are keeping tabs on Real Madrid star Federico Valverde as a possible replacement for Paul Pogba.
Pogba’s future remains under the spotlight despite some improved displays for United this season. With less than 18 months left on his deal, United have a decision to make on Pogba this summer.
Were he to leave, The Sun claims United already know the man they want to replace him. They state Valverde has leapt to the top of their wanted list after keeping a close watch on him. The 22-year-old has impressed watching United scouts with his displays for Real. And it’s claimed they feel he could be a perfect partner to Bruno Fernandes in the United midfield.
Valverde has a whopping £148million buyout clause in his deal at the Bernabeu. However, it would not take a bid of that magnitude to trigger it.
Indeed, there are even suggestions that a swap deal could be engineered between the two clubs.
Valverde has similar qualities to Pogba. He is known for his high-energy displays and for his ability to play box-to-box. Furthermore, his ability to play his way out of tight situations has also caught the eye.
But it’s easy to see why the deal would appeal to United. At 22, the Uruguayan can only get better. His wages – £120,000 a week – are also less than half what Pogba is paid. Furthermore, if he can bring out even more in star man Fernandes, that would also be a major win.
