Manchester United are hopeful of a fresh summer pursuit for Jadon Sancho, while Newcastle are eyeing up a rising Juventus talent – both in the latest Euro Paper Talk.
MAN UTD PLANNING NEW SANCHO BID
Manchester United will reignite their interest in Jadon Sancho this summer and their first bid could be worth £50million, according to a report.
Eurosport reports that the Red Devils have not lost interest in the winger, despite being rebuffed by the German club’s £108million valuation last summer.
In fact, their interest has grown stronger amid the prospect of getting a cheaper deal for the England international this time round.
Sancho has eaten into another year of his contract, but as well as that, Dortmund are in dire fiscal straits. The Bundesliga giants have announced losses of €26million (£22.8million) for the first half of the financial year.
They also face the prospect of failing to boost their income by securing Champions League qualification for next season. They have won only one of their past six games and are four points off the top four in the Bundesliga.
In addition, Dortmund have yet to permanently replace sacked head coach Lucien Favre, which is adding another source of instability.
As such, Eurosport claims that ‘the goalposts have moved’ as regards how much Sancho is worth.
Indeed, amid Dortmund’s £108million valuation last summer, United felt £80million was more appropriate. However, they would not even be willing to stretch that far this time round with the changing climate.
The Red Devils’ first offer of the new window could be closer to £50million. Despite Dortmund seeming likely to reject that, the source adds that they will have to ‘seriously consider’ the situation.
Sancho’s drop in form has also seen his value dip, Eurosport adds. The 20-year-old netted 20 goals and assisted 20 others in 44 appearances last season. However, it took him until January this term to notch his first Bundesliga strike.
