Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is reportedly considering a move to Manchester United on the grounds that the club is enjoying a revival under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Alaba’s future has emerged as one of the hottest transfer topics in recent months. The Austrian is leaving Bayern at the end of the season when his contract expires.
But ahead of his terms coming to an end, he is free to speak to – and sign a pre-contract with – overseas clubs. Therefore, Real Madrid have held serious interest in the 28-year-old for some time.
According to German journalist Constantin Eckner (via Twitter), however, the deal to move to Madrid is far from sealed. Indeed, while he ‘may’ prefer a move to Spain, he is aware that interest will come from elsewhere in Europe.
Therefore, he has become increasingly open to moving to England.
Don Balon, meanwhile, reports that both Chelsea and United hold a serious interest in Alaba.
However, the Spanish outlet adds that the centre-back is beginning to have doubts about a move to the Spanish capital. Alaba reportedly has concerns about the club’s future project under head coach Zinedine Zidane.
What’s more, he believes that United’s recent form is a sign that they have come out of their own slump and are on a firm upward trajectory.
Boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that his team are not title challengers this season. However, his side still remain in the race after 23 games, with Liverpool dropping out of form.
As such, Alaba is wondering whether to become a part of Solskjaer’s project. The Manchester Evening News has previously reported that United chiefs see an upgraded centre-back partner to Harry Maguire as a priority.
Alaba has proved a fantastic servant to Bayern after entering the first team in 2011. In that time, the defender has made 412 appearances for the German champions and is also a 76-time Austria international.
Solskjaer insists Man Utd not title challengers
Solskjaer made his title claim after United’s 3-3 draw with Everton on Saturday.
The Red Devils squandered two leads, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring a last-gasp equaliser.
As such, the manager does not feel that the hype surrounding his team is justified.
