West Ham switch focus towards €15m man linked with Liverpool, Man Utd West Ham have joined the race for Schalke defender Ozan Kabak, according to reports in Germany. Much of the focus about who West Ham could target in the transfer window has revolved around their search for a new striker recently. After selling Sebastien Haller to Ajax, David Moyes’ side are in need of a replacement. However, up front is not the only area of the pitch in which they could strengthen. Moyes was also keen to bring in a new defender during the summer transfer window. He had to settle for a loan deal for Watford’s Craig Dawson in October, but has used the 30-year-old sparingly. Therefore, he could still be in the market for a longer-term option at centre-back. West Ham were looking at younger targets during the summer, but missed out on Wesley Fofana to Leicester City. Now, they have reportedly turned their attention to Kabak. According to Sport1, West Ham have joined the list of suitors for the Schalke defender and Turkey international.   It is claimed that Schalke are no longer standing in the way of an exit for the 20-year-old. They could listen to offers in the region of €15m. The struggling Bundesliga side need to raise funds if they are to make any signings of their own this month – and they want a right-back and a striker. Therefore, they could cash in on one of their brighter talents to fund those moves. Their asking price for Kabak has been dropping consistently in recent months, mainly as a result of their own poor form. The player himself remains one of their better performers. However, as reluctant as they may be to let him leave, it is a decision they may have to make for the greater good – and that could benefit a team in the Premier League. Premier League interest in Kabak Kabak has previously been mentioned as a major target for Liverpool, who are in need of cover in defence in January. However, Jurgen Klopp continues to insist that a signing in the winter transfer window is unlikely. Therefore, Kabak’s future may not take him to Anfield yet. There were also rumours of interest from Manchester United, but now it seems West Ham are willing to compete for the youngster. AC Milan are the main competitor for Kabak’s signature. Therefore, West Ham will have some work to do if they are to firm up their interest in the defender.
