“Would I really let the club do that to me and to undermine me in that way? I don’t think so.
“We were looking at it, myself and Lee Charnley for weeks because of the problems we’ve had. Not just because we are on a bad run, but because he can come and help us.”

Bruce and Newcastle have limited his media duties in the last two games, banning the written press from asking questions. The local press have been included in that with Bruce accusing them of a lack of respect.
Bruce demands respect
Bruce explained the snub: “For me, I’ve got no problem with criticism. It’s the constant criticism of the club. And when it comes to ridicule, then I think there should be a little more respect.
“We accept criticism, we’re getting beat. I give up my time and my respect to speak to them.
“Yes, they can be pretty damning, we all accept that but have a little bit of respect.”
United not won in 11 matches and have lost six games in a row with the pressure building on Bruce. The 60-year-old though remains confident he can turn things around before they get sucked into the bottom three.
“First and foremost I am a fan and I always want what’s best for the club,” added Bruce.
“I’m determined to tell all the supporters we’ll get out of this bad run that we’re having but it’s not easy.
“It’s never going to be easy for any Newcastle manager because of the great expectations the club has and the unique club it is.
“I’ll do my utmost to turn it around. I’m never going to walk away from it. I’ll keep grinding away and turn it around.”
