UNITED CLOSING IN ON ECUADOR STAR Manchester United are reportedly set to win the race for Moises Caicedo after Ed Woodward opened talks over a deal for the Eduador international. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are facing competition from Premier League rivals West Ham for the teenage midfielder ahead of the January transfer window. Caicedo, who has been described as a mix between Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante, is currently playing fir Independiente del Valle in his homeland. The midfielder is known for his high-energy performances and aggressive pressing. The 19-year-old can playing as a defensive midfielder or in more of attacking role and has scored six goals this season. Caicedo has also featured during Ecuador’s World Cup qualifying campaign, earning four caps for his country and scoring once. The player looks set to become the latest part of United’s young recruitment drive, after the Red Devils landed Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo over the summer. The report in the Daily Record adds that executive vice-chairman Woodward has already opened discussions over a potential January move for the midfielder. The publication claims that the Old Trafford club are trying to beat West Ham to Caicedo’s signature after David Moyes’ side also made an inquiry over his availability. Independiente are understood to value the youngster at £5.4million, and would be looking for a 20% sell-on fee. Discussing his ambition to “one day be in the elite of world football” in a recent television interview, the South American said: “Manchester United are my favourite club. “I really like the game of N’Golo Kante and Paul Pogba, I learn a lot from them every time I see them.
