Liverpool are ready to hijack Barcelona’s move for a young centre-back on Man City’s books, while Atletico Madrid have sent Man Utd a message over Kieran Trippier, all in Thursday’s Euro Paper Talk.
SHOCK LIVERPOOL MOVE FOR CITY STARLET
Liverpool are reportedly looking to hijack Barcelona’s move for young Manchester City centre-back Eric Garcia.
The Spanish giants have been the frontrunners to land the 19-year-old when his contract runs out at the end of the season.
But now reports from Spanish publication AS Diario (as cited by Euro Weekly) claim the Reds are looking to steal the talented youngster in a shock swoop.
With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both out long term, Liverpool chief Jurgen Klopp is on the hunt for reinforcements.
Brighton defender Ben White, Olympiacos star Ruben Semedo and Schalke’s Ozan Kabak are among a plethora of names linked with a switch to Anfield.
But the Reds could be ready to look closer to home and try and tempt Garcia to Merseyside instead.
Garcia’s contract stipulates that he can sign a pre-contract on January 1, with any club outside the UK.
However. a British club must wait until the summer before they can speak to him, which does hinder Liverpool.
The player himself is thought to prefer a move back to Barca, where he started his career.
The defender has so far turned down City’s attempts to secure his future, meaning an exit looks inevitable.
It remains to be seen, however, if City would allow Garcia to join their main rivals for the Premier League title.
To that end, it would appear that the player is more likely to head back to Catalonia by agreeing a switch in the new year.
