Scholes says Rashford, Greenwood struggle with identical flaw to Nani Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes says Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood share a similar flaw to ex-Red Devil Nani. Rashford and Greenwood have risen to spearhead United‘s attack in recent seasons after strong runs of form. Indeed, while Rashford burst onto the scene in 2016, Greenwood, still only 19, emerged last season. Nevertheless, both have benefitted from the craft of midfielder Bruno Fernandes in recent months. However, speaking ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Istanbul Basaksehir, Scholes claimed that both players needed to show more. Analysing midfielder Fred’s role in providing creativity, Scholes insisted that the strikers should put more onus on carving out chances for themselves. What’s more, he outlined that Rashford and Greenwood need to be regularly reminded of their best strengths. “Players need to know their strengths, Marcus’ strength is running in behind. Mason Greenwood’s strength is running in behind because he’s got the pace,” Scholes told BT Sport. “Now if you’ve got time on the ball, you should be able to play that ball over the top to him. If you’re a central midfield player for Man Utd you should be capable of it. “I’m not sure if Fred is, I think he might be. But Fred in that situation, he should be telling Marcus and Mason anyway. Do not come towards me, one bit. “I played with great centre-forwards – Robin van Persie, Ruud van Nistlerooy, Andy Cole. All players who ran in behind and you didn’t need to tell them. Rashford, Greenwood have key flaw     “I probably played with one player who you had to constantly tell, it was Nani. He had the strength to run in behind people, but you had to keep telling him. “It looks like Marcus is the same, it looks like Mason is the same. You’re the quick players in the team, you’ve got to stretch the team.” Rashford has began the season in particularly good form. Ahead of Wednesday’s clash, he had scored seven goals, including a Champions League hat-trick against RB Leipzig. Greenwood, meanwhile, has suffered from off-field problems and is yet to make a solid impact this term. Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes says Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood share a similar flaw to ex-Red Devil Nani.

“I probably played with one player who you had to constantly tell, it was Nani. He had the strength to run in behind people, but you had to keep telling him.

“It looks like Marcus is the same, it looks like Mason is the same. You’re the quick players in the team, you’ve got to stretch the team.”

Rashford has began the season in particularly good form. Ahead of Wednesday’s clash, he had scored seven goals, including a Champions League hat-trick against RB Leipzig.

Greenwood, meanwhile, has suffered from off-field problems and is yet to make a solid impact this term.
