Chelsea are likely to allow a first-team star to leave Stamford Bridge on loan in January, while Man City end their interest in Lionel Messi – all in the latest Paper Talk.
BLUES TO ALLOW TOMORI LOAN
Chelsea are likely to allow defender Fikayo Tomori to leave Stamford Bridge on loan in January, according to a report.
The centre-back played a vital role under Frank Lampard in the manager’s first season in the dugout. Indeed, he played 22 games in all competitions, including 15 in the Premier League.
This season, however, the 22-year-old has struggled for minutes, making only one appearance in the top flight. Aside from that, he has only played twice in the Carabao Cup.
The England international, who was in Gareth Southgate’s thinking last year, has fallen down the pecking order due to Thiago Silva’s arrival. The 36-year-old veteran has become Lampard’s first choice, forming a solid partnership with Kurt Zouma.
As such, The Telegraph reports that, should Lampard remain free of injuries, Chelsea will make Tomori available in January.
The newspaper also notes that the defender will be one of the ‘high-profile’ players on the market.
Indeed, despite him enjoying loan spells at Championship sides Derby – and earlier Brighton and Hull – he would attract interest from Premier League clubs.
Everton were reportedly keen in the most recent transfer window but opted to sign Norwich’s Ben Godfrey.
Tomori is the second Chelsea player who, as it stands, will likely leave Stamford Bridge in January. Striker Olivier Giroud has admitted that his level of game time is “worrying” ahead of next summer’s European Championships.
