Liverpool feel that reports speculating about the extent of Virgil van Dijk’s knee injury are ‘unhelpful’, according to a report.
Van Dijk will see a specialist on Sunday after Jordan Pickford’s rash challenge in Saturday’s Merseyside derby.
The Everton goalkeeper collided into the Netherlands captain, who left the field after initial treatment.
However initial reports from beIN Sport claim that Van Dijk could have injured his anterior cruciate ligament. The source says that he could be out for the rest of the season.
According to reliable Liverpool source Ian Doyle (via Twitter), the Reds feel such speculation is ‘unhelpful’.
The club would rather such reports did not surface and would prefer to wait before publishing an official prognosis.
However, Doyle also claims that Liverpool are ‘hopeful’ about Thiago Alcantara’s problem.
The Spanish midfielder also suffered a knee injury against Everton, with Richarlison receiving red for his tackle.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said that Thiago confirmed that he had suffered an injury as he walked off Goodison Park.
However both the 29-year-old and Van Dijk must wait to find out the true extent of the damage they have accrued.
Richarlison apologised after full-time for his tackle, explaining why the contact he made with Thiago’s knee was “inevitable”.
Pickford, meanwhile, escaped punishment, with Van Dijk ruled offside before he received the whack from the goalkeeper.

Liverpool forced into reshuffle
Liverpool will inevitably be down to two recognised centre-backs for some time. However Joel Matip returned to action on Saturday after his recent spell on the sidelines.
Joe Gomez, meanwhile, looks to have restored confidence after his struggles against Aston Villa.
Fabinho could slot in for the time being, after impressively keeping Timo Werner at bay away at Chelsea.
In any case, Liverpool will have to field a Premier League back four without Van Dijk for the first time since January 2018.
The Reds return to action on Wednesday, when their Champions League campaign begins against Ajax.
