Mourinho concerned by ‘replica’ Southampton goal conceded by Tottenham; explains Ndombele substitution Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho appeared frustrated at having to describe Danny Ings’ opener for Southampton, which was a “replica” of his goal against Spurs last season. Tottenham smashed the Saints 5-2 on Sunday, with Son Heung-min and Harry Kane combining to deadly effect. However in a lethargic first half from the visitors in which they had two goals disallowed, Ings opened his account for the season. The England international expertly brought down a ball over the top from Kyle Walker-Peters before finishing past Hugo Lloris. The goal was almost identical to Ings’ winner against Spurs on New Years’ Day. Speaking after the game, Mourinho expressed his overall delight at his side’s performance while admitting concern about the way his side conceded. “I think the second half was really, really good,” Mourinho told BT Sport. “We didn’t start bad, of course the goal was disallowed for offside but we started quite well. “But then we lost control of the game in the first half. Their strikers created problems, we couldn’t control them. “We conceded a goal that is a replica of a goal that we conceded last season here, with a long ball behind our defenders and Ings winning that duel.” Mourinho added that second-half substitutions Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela helped his side to victory. “In the second half, we had a great dynamic, good impact from the two players coming from the bench, very similar to Plovdiv,” he said. “I just love the player that comes from the bench with a special attitude to help the team. I think Gio and Lamela, they did that, and Sonny was on fire and, for me, Harry Kane man of the match.” Mourinho explains Ndombele substitution Ndombele, who struggled for fitness last season in his debut Spurs campaign, received backing from Mourinho last week. The Portuguese manager claimed he could see the French midfielder enjoying an “evolution”, although he was brought off at half-time against the Saints. Mourinho said: “Football is not just about one action. There were three or four players with yellow cards, Tanguy for us, [Oriel] Romeo and two more players with yellow cards. “I felt in the second half the game will be broken and it would be a risk for Tanguy. It was a risk also for them, in fact Romeu was close to getting a second yellow card. “I changed Tanguy because I knew that Gio would give us a little bit more because he’s in a better condition than Tanguy.” Spurs face Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday in their next fixture.   The post Mourinho concerned by ‘replica’ Southampton goal conceded by Tottenham; explains Ndombele substitution appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho appeared frustrated at having to describe Danny Ings’ opener for Southampton, which was a “replica” of his goal against Spurs last season.

Tottenham smashed the Saints 5-2 on Sunday, with Son Heung-min and Harry Kane combining to deadly effect.

The goal was almost identical to Ings’ winner against Spurs on New Years’ Day.

Speaking after the game, Mourinho expressed his overall delight at his side’s performance while admitting concern about the way his side conceded.

James Ward-Prowse, Tanguy Ndombele

Ndombele, who struggled for fitness last season in his debut Spurs campaign, received backing from Mourinho last week.
