Man Utd have a contract offer for a Real Madrid star rejected, while doubts emerge about Leeds’ hunt for a midfielder – all in the latest Euro Paper Talk.
REAL STAR REJECT MAN UTD PROPOSAL
Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has rejected the prospect of moving to Manchester United amid an offer from the Red Devils, according to a report.
Kroos, who moved to Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014, has maintained his status as a key figure at the club. Last season, he made 45 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with six goals and nine assists.
Indeed, he has formed a solid relationship with the likes of Casemiro and Luka Modric in midfield which, according to Don Balon, will serve Zinedine Zidane well in the new campaign.
The source also claims, however, that Kroos has received further concrete interest from United. The Old Trafford club almost signed the German in 2014, before David Moyes’ sacking caused the deal to fall through.
Don Balon now says United have offered to make Kroos one of the highest-paid players at the club from next season. As part of the deal, Pogba – a firm target for Zidane – would move the other way.
Indeed, United reportedly hope such a proposal will spring Madrid into action this transfer window. The Spanish giants have confirmed they are scaling back spending amid the financial impacts of the pandemic.
As for Kroos’ stance, the 31-year-old will not entertain thoughts of a move away. He has become an unmissable figure under Zidane and feels he still has plenty to offer.
What’s more, he is unwilling to sacrifice the friendships and relationships he has made with his teammates. In any case, Don Balon says Madrid would have rejected the proposal had Kroos accepted.
United have already taken significant steps to improving their midfield. Following Bruno Fernandes’ arrival in January, the Red Devils signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax last week.
