Liverpool are believed to be mulling over loan options for Sepp van den Berg, who is attracting interest from England an abroad.
The Liverpool Echo claim scouts were impressed with the 18-year-old’s “mature performance” for the U21s on Tuesday night.
Van den Berg led the defensive line and was unfortunate to see his side lose 3-2 to an experienced Tranmere side in the EFL Trophy.
The numerous watching scouts though were apparently impressed with the centre-back, who arrived from PEC Zwolle last summer in a deal understood to be worth an initial £1.3m.
The talented defender “made a number of excellent tackles as the home side threatened and was a significant presence in the game”.
He is the subject of interest from a handful of English clubs, while teams in the Eredivisie and Bundesliga 2 are also keen on a loan deal for the player.
Michael Edwards and Co. are expected to make a decision on his future this week with a loan move in the offing.
Van den Berg played three times in the EFL Cup last season, including the penalty win over Arsenal in the fourth round,
‘There is a lot to learn’
Boss Jurgen Klopp was delighted to get Van den Berg ahead of Bayern Munich last summer, but his first-team prospects are distant at the moment.
“He is a wonderful player as well, but because of FIFA rules he is not available in the moment, but we have other good players,” said Klopp last summer.
“He thought his future should be here and I thought the same, so now he is here and now let’s work together.
“At 17 years old when you see him you forget that constantly, but he is 17 and so there is a lot to learn.
“The good thing is he has the most time to do so, so everything will be fine.”
