AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has told Ralf Rangnick to have some respect after the German official was linked with the Serie A giants.
The former Schalke, Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig boss has been repeatedly linked with the San Siro post for months and last week he confirmed to Bild there had been an approach.
“I can’t exclude it completely. Milan asked me about my availability, I advised Red Bull and there were talks with my agent,” Rangnick told Bild.
Those comments have riled Maldini, who advised Rangnick, who is Red Bull’s head of sport and development, to “review the general concepts of respect” after requesting “full managerial powers” to accept a role at Milan.
Milan CEO Ivan Gazidis looks poised to completely restructure the hierarchy of the Milan club, with Rangnick asking for ‘certain influence’ if he was to accept the offer.
It has left Maldini furious at treading on current coach Stefano Pioli’s toes and all Milan’s technical staff.
“As I have never talked to Rangnick, I don’t understand on what basis his statements are made, also because I have never been told anything by the owner,” Maldini told news agency ANSA. “Some consideration, in my opinion, must be made.
“The German director in fact, speaking of a role with full managerial powers in both the sports and the technical areas, invades the areas in which professionals work with regular contracts.
“So, I have some advice for him, before learning Italian, he should review the general concepts of respect, as there are colleagues who, despite the many difficulties of the moment, are trying to finish the season in a professional way, putting the good of Milan to their professional pride.”
