Frank Lampard has told Dries Mertens of his intention to sign the player this summer, while Lazio have made a derisory offer for one of Chelsea’s injured stars, all in the Euro papers.
ONE OUT, ONE IN AT CHELSEA
Lazio have reportedly identified Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek as a potential transfer target, according to Il Messaggero.
The England man has not kicked a ball all season after rupturing his Achilles tendon, but he is closing in on fitness and he could get a taste of action at Chelsea if the season resumes.
However, the Italian outlet suggest Lazio are keen to sign the playmaker during the next window and willing to offer £17.5m for the 24-year-old.
It’s a price that looks rather light, especially for a player who still has over four years left on his contract, regardless of his injury problems.
Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has reportedly been in direct contact with Dries Mertens, who could replace Loftus-Cheek in the Chelsea squad.
Apparently Lampard has followed the 33-year-old Napoli forward on Instagram and now initiated contact with the Belgium star, according to Il Matino.
The Blues boss is thought to have discussed a switch to Chelsea with Mertens, who has 12 goals in 29 appearances for Napoli this season who will be out of contract in the summer.
