Man Utd slated over transfer error; shock name cited as one of world’s best Inter Milan legend Ivan Cordoba has criticised Man Utd over their decision to allow Romelu Lukaku to depart Old Trafford, claiming they ‘did not understand the player’s potential.’ The Belgian centre-forward joined the Red Devils in 2017 for an initial £75m fee on the back several successful seasons with Everton. Despite notching an impressive 27 goals from 51 appearances in his maiden season at Old Trafford, Lukaku’s following campaign was a relative disappointment. With Marcus Rashford developing into a more complete forward and the unmistakable talents of Mason Greenwood quickly emerging, the decision was made to allow Lukaku to depart for pastures new. Italian powerhouse Inter Milan came calling, and Lukaku quickly justified their faith by plundering 23 goals from 35 appearances at the San Siro as he formed a lethal partnership with Argentine Lautaro Martinez. Now, former Nerazzurri defender Ivan Cordoba has weighed in on Utd’s decision, claiming that the club did not understand what they had in Lukaku. “Lukaku is an extraordinary player,” Cordoba told British newspaper the Daily Mail. “Manchester United did not understand the player’s potential and his last season was bad for him. “In my opinion Lukaku is proving everyone to be a champion. “He is determined and the Premier League has improved him a lot. I met him: he is a positive leader in the changing rooms. “It’s a shame that Manchester United sold him, but I’m happy that Inter bought him. Antonio Conte has been fundamental to his form at Inter.” Colombian Cordoba spent 12 years with Inter and was a member of the squad that won the treble under Jose Mourinho in 2010.   The versatile defender admitted he keeps a close eye on the Premier League, but produced a rather curious name when pinpointing which centre-half he believes is one of the world’s best. Rather than opting for more predictable names like Virgil van Dijk or Aymeric Laporte, Cordoba instead likes the look of Man City centre-back John Stones, believing him to be a “complete defender in everything he does.” “I follow the Premier League and I consider it to be one of the best leagues in the world,” he added. “In England I really like John Stones of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. “A very strong defender. He is a complete defender in everything he does. I think he is one of the best in the world.” Meanwhile, Man Utd legend Ryan Giggs has revealed the four players that never received the dubious honour of experiencing Sir Alex Ferguson’s infamous hairdryer treatment.   The post Man Utd slated over transfer error; shock name cited as one of world’s best appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING
