Pundit attacks ‘overweight’ Tottenham star in savage assessment Emanuel Petit has claimed that claimed that Tanguy Ndombele looks “overweight” in his assessment of the Tottenham midfielder’s problems this season. Ndombele, who became Spurs’ club-record signing after joining from Lyon last summer, has struggled to adapt due to fitness problems throughout the campaign. The Frenchman has only managed to complete 90 minutes on five occasions and relations with boss Jose Mourinho reached boiling point earlier this month when the manager warned that the player has to do “much better”. Those comments came after Ndombele was brought off at half-time during a 1-1 draw with Burnley and, speaking to The Sun, Petit opened up on where he thinks the midfielder is going wrong. “He received the same criticisms at Lyon,” the Arsenal legend said. “We all know the potential of Ndombele. I like this type of player and I used to watch him in France. “He was not regularly a top player. Sometimes he could play a beautiful game — then three days later be average. He is not consistent enough. He doesn’t play well with any regularity. “He has quality but I agree with Mourinho in that Ndombele could do much more. When he is very motivated, fit and ready, with his mind and body, and when he has the ambition to perform well, he becomes a top player.” Petit then went on to claim that Ndombele’s weight and body language are holding him back from flourishing in North London.     “Is he overweight? He looks a little bit,” the pundit said. “But his body language does not help him. He needs to improve physically. “When I see him I think ‘Come on, you can do more than that’.” Reports earlier this week claimed that Barcelona are interested in signing Ndombele and giving him a fresh start in LaLiga. Mundo Deportivo reported that Ndombele’s status as “a modern midfielder” makes him an ideal replacement for ageing midfield duo Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal, both 32. Tottenham have also been linked with a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer, who scored twice as the Bundesliga side knocked Spurs out of the Champions League earlier this month. However, Austria legend Toni Polster has questioned whether a move to Mourinho’s side would benefit the player. Emanuel Petit has claimed that claimed that Tanguy Ndombele looks “overweight” in his assessment of the Tottenham midfielder’s problems this season.

When he is very motivated, fit and ready, with his mind and body, and when he has the ambition to perform well, he becomes a top player.”

Petit then went on to claim that Ndombele’s weight and body language are holding him back from flourishing in North London.

“Is he overweight? He looks a little bit,” the pundit said. “But his body language does not help him. He needs to improve physically.

“When I see him I think ‘Come on, you can do more than that’.”

Reports earlier this week claimed that Barcelona are interested in signing Ndombele and giving him a fresh start in LaLiga.

Mundo Deportivo reported that Ndombele’s status as “a modern midfielder” makes him an ideal replacement for ageing midfield duo Ivan Rakitic and Arturo Vidal, both 32.
