RB Leipzig are close to signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Christopher Nkunku, according to a reputable source.
Sky Germany via Canal Supporters report that the Bundesliga side are on the verge of unveiling the midfielder, who was on the target list of Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
Leipzig are set to pay £18million in total, including add-ons, with an announcement expected soon.
Arsenal were also thought to be chasing Nkunku, who made 22 Ligue 1 appearances for PSG last season.
Nkunku, 21, was a target for the Gunners in the winter transfer window, but a deal never materialised with his agent claiming the deal was “complicated” but confirmed there was real interest from Arsenal.
Emery is believed to be an admirer of midfield enforcer Nkunku having brought the player through the youth ranks while he was in charge of the PSG between 2016 and 2018.
The Gunners were not believed to be alone in their pursuit of Nkunku, with Sport.de reporting that Bayern Munich were also keeping tabs on the player.
Nkunku’s contract expires in 2020, so PSG have decided to sell France U21 international and cash in on him before his deal runs down next year.
The Gunners have been liked with numerous midfielders this summer with Julian Weigl and Adrien Rabiot, who is set to sign for Juventus, all understood to have been contenders to replace Aaron Ramsey.
