There was other interest in the speedy winger, who almost joined Leeds in January, with Everton and Newcastle United interested, as well as Brighton, who have just appointed James’s boss at Swansea Graham Potter. United though “offered the most attractive transfer fee and wages” for the player, who has caught the eye this term in his breakthrough season with five goals and 10 assists. Solskjaer was asked about the interest in James ahead of his final press conference of the season and the Norwegian tried to swerve the issue. “I don’t know how many names have been mentioned since I’ve come in,” Solskjaer said. “There are players I’ve barely seen that I’ve read we are going to sign. There’s loads of speculation. “I can’t comment on every single individual. “Many players, as I’ve said. I don’t like when other managers talk about my players and I wouldn’t talk about others, even if I wasn’t or if I was interested.” James, who has been capped by Wales this season, was left out of their draw at Blackburn in the final game of the season, likely to avoid any injury ahead of an expected summer move.
