Liverpool will sign a centre-back in summer, says respected journalist Jurgen Klopp will add a central defender to his squad in the summer, according to the Liverpool Echo. Echo journalist James Pearce believes Liverpool boss Klopp will try and sign a centre-back ahead of next season to give him more cover with another season in the Champions League on the agenda. The German coach’s recent record in the transfer market is a good one with Mohamed Salah (£36.9m), Virgil Van Dijk (£75m) and Alisson (65m) and even the likes of Fabinho (39m) and Naby Keita (52m), who have been slow to settle in, now starting to prove their worth. The club also, earlier this month, published results on a record-breaking £125million profit before tax last year – even after spending £190million on new players. Turnover increased during the last period by £90m to £455m, with all three revenue streams rising: media increasing by £66m to £220m, commercial up by £17m to £154m and match revenue increasing by £7m to £81m, thus laying the foundations for potentially another big move in the market this summer. Klopp though last week curbed any hopes Liverpool fans had of spending big again in the next window when he said: “If you have the right players in, you work with them and make the best of it.” However, Pearce, who is heading to Germany to watch Bayern Munich this weekend, thinks the German maybe tempted to enter the market due to the unreliability of Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip. Pearce wrote in and Q&A: “I think a centre-back will be on Klopp’s shopping list this summer. I can’t see how he can possibly go into next season with his current personnel. “The reality is that Lovren and Matip miss far too much football. Liverpool have played 26 league games this season and Lovren has only featured in nine of them. “Gomez is a class act and at the age of 21 he could be a key part of this Liverpool team for the next decade and more. He’s been unlucky with some serious injuries, whereas Lovren and Matip seem to get niggling muscle issues.” En route to Munich. Augsburg v Bayern for me tonight. With no #LFC game this weekend, chance to check out how Kovac’s side are shaping up for Tuesday’s visit to Anfield. pic.twitter.com/jsgyF3BG9C — James Pearce (@JamesPearceEcho) February 15, 2019 Get the latest personalised Reds products on our new TEAMtalk Liverpool shop!   The post Liverpool will sign a centre-back in summer, says respected journalist appeared first on teamtalk.com. - SPORT BETTING
