Manchester United and Chelsea are both chasing a Barcelona midfielder, while one club are leading the race for Philippe Coutinho according to Wednesday’s European papers.
MAN UTD, CHELSEA ASK AFTER CROATIA STAR
Manchester United and Chelsea have made enquiries over the signing of Barcelona midfielder Ivan Rakitic, according to a report.
According to Wednesday’s edition of Spanish paper Sport, the future of the Croatia international is uncertain due to his contract situation.
The outlet claims that Rakitic is demanding a new deal on improved terms from the Catalan giants, however the club have no intention to give in to his wishes.
The report even states that Barcelona have no intention of renewing his deal, which expires in 2021, and could sell him at the end of the season.
United and Chelsea, as well as the other clubs, have apparently asked about the player’s availability in the summer – but he may cost around €65m.
Barcelona have already secured the signing of Ajax starlet Frenkie de Jong, meaning that they may be more inclined to ship Rakitic.
