Tottenham’s sale of a star man will spark a huge summer spending spree at the club, while Liverpool look to be sole suitors to sign a Brazilian winger, according to Thursday’s European papers.
HUGE TRANSFER PLANS AFOOT AT TOTTENHAM
Tottenham have reportedly accepted that Christian Eriksen will leave the club this summer – but already plan to spend the money generated by his sale on as many as five new signings.
Classy Danish star Eriksen has just 17 months to run on his Tottenham contract and they now accept it’s highly unlikely the player will sign a new deal. PSG, Barcelona and Real Madrid have all been linked with a swoop and Don Balon claim Spurs will now sell him to the highest bidder this summer.
However, rather than feel sorry for themselves, Tottenham plan to use the windfall – likely to be around €110m – to seriously invest in their squad – and the same Spanish outlet claims the club already have a number of targets in mind.
First up, it’s claimed Spurs remain genuine contenders to win the race to sign Adrien Rabiot as a free agent from PSG. The France midfielder has attracted interest from Liverpool and Barcelona, but it’s suggested their interest has cooled as they pursue other targets – meaning Spurs can finally land a player they came close to signing in the January window.
The club also plans to raid Valencia for midfielder Carlos Soler, who looks likely to be made available for around €35million this summer. The midfielder has been watched by Manchester United and Manchester City in the past, but their interest has waned and Tottenham now lead the chase.
With Victor Wanyama possibly set to join Mousa Dembele and Eriksen out the exit door, Tottenham are seemingly very much in the market for new midfielders and Ajax star Donny van de Beek is also on their transfer wishlist.
The 22-year-old has enjoyed a stellar 2018/19 campaign, having caught the eye with some outstanding performances in both the Eredivise and the Champions League. He is another who comes though with a €40m+ transfer valuation.
Finally, it’s claimed Tottenham have two targets closer to home, with both Bournemouth’s David Brooks and James Maddison of Leicester both in the frame to fill Eriksen’s boots directly. It’s suggested Spurs are willing to pay up to €50m (£44m) to sign either player to replace the departing Dane.
By the time the summer rolls around, Tottenham will have gone 18 months without signing a new player, but that drought looks very much set to end – with the sale of Eriksen key to what could prove a major summer of investment for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
