An update on the transfer saga regarding Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves has put Barcelona ahead of Manchester United and Arsenal, due to his ‘dream’.
Neves has been linked with a move away from Wolves for much of this season. The three main suitors are Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona.
Of course, going to either Arsenal or Manchester United would mean staying in England. A move to Barcelona would be a big one for any player, though.
Many top Premier League talents have made the switch to a big La Liga side of late. Philippe Coutinho – now on loan at Aston Villa – moved to Barcelona in 2018 from Liverpool.
Eden Hazard made the big switch from Chelsea to Real Madrid in 2019. Just this year, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made his way to Barcelona on a free transfer from Arsenal.
Of course, most of those players made a transfer from a legitimate Premier League powerhouse.
Indeed, a move from Wolves to Barcelona would be massive. However, it would be a deserved one, given how crucial Neves has been at Molineux over the past few seasons.
The Portuguese is Wolves’ fourth-top goalscorer this term, with four. That haul includes a crucial injury-time free kick against rivals Aston Villa in October.
Furthermore, Neves has made 138 Premier League appearances for Wolves, and has contributed to 23 goals. However, it seems he could play above the level the Midlanders are at, hence transfer interest.
Neves dream could scupper Man Utd, Arsenal
Speculation over where Neves will end up has been rife of late. A move to Barcelona has seemed the less likely, as they may be priced out, due to their financial situation.
However, an update from Sport suggests that Neves would rather opt for a move to La Blaugrana. It is apparently Neves’ ‘dream’ to wear the Barcelona shirt.
And given he is keen on the move, Barca may want to do all in their power to secure the move.
That could be tough, given the financial troubles they have been reported to have had of late. But it would not be a surprise if Barcelona managed to pull it off somehow, and take Neves to Camp Nou.
