Man City have reached an agreement on personal terms with Erling Haaland and Dortmund are poised to replace the Norwegian with a Liverpool target, per reports.
The rivalry between Manchester City and Liverpool has captivated English football in recent years. The two clubs have dominated the domestic scene and could yet meet in all-English final of the Champions League this season.
The pair have rarely missed in the transfer market either, with Liverpool’s latest addition – Luis Diaz – proving an instant hit.
And according to the Daily Mail, Man City are now poised to fire back after striking an agreement over personal terms with Erling Haaland.
The future of the Dortmund hitman always looked like it would come to a head this summer.
Widespread reporting has indicated he has a €75m (£63m) release clause within his contract. And with personal terms now agreed, the Mail add City are ‘expected’ to trigger the clause in the coming weeks.
Haaland will sign a contract reportedly worth ‘more than’ £500-000-per-week. That will not only make him the highest paid player at Man City, but also the top earner in the Premier League.
A five-year deal running until 2027 is on the agenda and it’s hinted Haaland’s father may have had a big say on proceedings.
Erling’s father, Alf-Inge, previously played for Man City between 2000-03. The Mail describe Alf-Inge as ‘heavily involved’ in his son’s transfer negotiations.
Haaland has bagged an incredible 82 goals in just 85 appearances since moving to Dortmund in 2019. His arrival will spell the end of City’s interest in Harry Kane after multiple bids were lodged for the Tottenham talisman last summer.
Signing a player of Haaland’s prowess will undoubtedly be a blow to chief rivals Liverpool. However, Sky Sports note the bad news for the Reds does not stop there.
Dortmund line up Haaland replacement
They report Dortmund will waste little time in signing Haaland’s successor in the form of Liverpool target Karim Adeyemi.
The 20-year-old German has been in fine form for RB Salzburg this season. He has notched 20 goals in 39 matches across all competitions.
Liverpool have developed a habit of targeting players from within the Red Bull organisation. Varying reports over the past few months have indicated the three-cap Germany international was another they were keen to sign.
However, Sky state Dortmund are now ‘set to sign’ Adeyemi. While no transfer figures are mentioned, Sky Germany previously cited a £35m fee when detailing Liverpool’s interest.
