Tottenham are reportedly upping the stakes in an effort to secure the signing of Dejan Kulusevski – with director Fabio Paratici reported to have offered his former club their choice of two players in part exchange.
The Swedish winger, 21, appears destined to leave Turin in the near future. His game-time has been slashed under returning boss Max Allegri, and the club are believed to be receptive to his sale.
Paratici knows all about the Sweden midfielder having worked on the deal to bring him to Juventus in the first place. And now it seems a reunion in north London could be on the cards with Juventus willing to sell.
Indeed, Kulusevski is not short of admirers with Arsenal also reportedly hot on his trail.
However, as per Gazzetta dello Sport, via Sport Witness, it is Spurs who are readying a firm approach for Kulusevski. They report that Spurs are ‘ready to get serious’ about the winger and already hold the upper hand in negotiations.
Furthermore, they claim Antonio Conte also ‘likes the player’ and already has a role in mind for Kulusevski in his side. They state the Spurs chief wants the Swede to play behind Harry Kane in his preferred 3-4-2-1 formation.
That role is currently occupied by a mix of Lucas Moura and Steven Bergwijn, though the signing of Kulusevski could see the Dutchman depart.
And now, in order to gain another advantage in the deal, Spurs are reportedly ready to offer two players as part of a swap.
Indeed, as il Gazzetta claims, Paratici will offer Juve one of Giovanni Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele in a straight swap.
Conte ready to sacrifice duo for Kulusevski
The article claims the pair are two players Conte doesn’t rate too highly and ‘can do without’.
It’s suggested all three stars are rated at around €30m and organising the swap should hold too many barriers.
For Kulusevski’s part, he is reportedly not pushing for a move away from Juventus.
However, he’s seemingly open to a move to London and wants to increase his game-time having been a bit-part player this season.
In 68 appearances for Juve, he has scored eight goals. This season, he has made just four starts in Serie A though does boast three assists to his name.
Matt Doherty set for Spurs exit
As well as Bergwijn, Spurs may also be preparing to wave farewell to Matt Doherty in January.
The 29-year-old joined Spurs from Wolves in the summer of 2020. He made 13 starts among 17 Premier League appearances last term. However, the Republic of Ireland international is now down the pecking order.
He barely featured under Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte has also overlooked him to date. The former Bury loan man has made only four substitute appearances in the league, playing 98 minutes of football.
He has started five Europa League Conference games and featured once in the EFL Cup. But it is not enough for a player who was a regular at Molineux for six seasons.
Doherty enjoyed 302 outings for the Black Country outfit before moving to north London.
His days at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium may be numbered, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Roma. The Italian said on his Here We Go Podcast that Doherty ‘has serious chances’ of leaving the club in January.
