Jamie Carragher says he got it badly wrong over Arsenal signing Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has admitted he got it wrong when assessing Arsenal’s signing of goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. The former Liverpool man has been highly critical of Arsenal’s recent transfer policy and was dubious over the summer signing of Ramsdale. The Sheffield United keeper finally arrived at The Emirates on August 24 after a lengthy chase. The 23-year-old signed a long-term contract for a fee, which could hit £30m including add ons. The price tag saw plenty of eyebrows raised, especially because Ramsdale had no top-flight experience. He returned to the bench in the 5-0 defeat to Man City, but started the following game in the Premier League and has been the No.1 ever since. He has kept five clean sheets in eight games and his distribution has been fantastic. His form has also seen him called up by England and he made his full debut in this week’s 1-0 win against San Marino. And Carragher has been surprised by the former Bournemouth man. Carragher told the Ringer FC Podcast: “The keeper, I mean if I’ve ever been wrong about a player more than Aaron Ramsdale, I don’t know who it is yet.   “It’s still early days, but I remember that last-minute goal vs Crystal Palace and he ran from one end of the other to get involved with the celebrations. “I thought there are little things with these young lads coming together and it reminded me of us at Liverpool under Gerard Houllier.” Subscribe for free to TEAMtalk’s daily newsletter… ‘Make the right mistakes’ Carragher has lambasted Arsenal’s Edu previously for his transfer dealings. You’re bringing David Luiz in and you’re bringing Willian in – two rejects from Chelsea. “I’m just scratching my head thinking, ‘I can’t get behind this, it’s wrong, it doesn’t work’. “Of course you’re allowed to make mistakes, but make the right mistakes. “Why are you buying rejects from Chelsea who are over 30? And then giving them big deals and you can’t get rid of them? That’s a mistake before it’s happened. That’s just stupid.” It appears that Edu needs a much-deserved pat on the back for landing Ramsdale. A player who has had a significant impact on Arteta’s first team.
