MAN UTD HAVE POGBA CONTINGENCY PLAN
Manchester United have three players on their transfer shortlist if Paul Pogba refuses to commit to a new contract, according to a report.
After a long spell of largely inconsistent displays, Pogba has become a vital player for United this term. As such, talk has ramped up over his future, with his current deal expiring next summer.
Indeed, The Sun on Sunday revealed that the Red Devils want to tie the France star down to lucrative new terms.
They will reportedly offer Pogba up to £500,000 per week, which would comfortably make him the club’s highest-paid player.
According to the Daily Mirror, though, United chiefs have alternatives in mind if they fail to get the midfielder to commit.
West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is their first option. The England international has become one of the finest defensive midfielders in Europe and, at 22, has already made 128 Premier League appearances.
Furthermore, he has cemented his name in Gareth Southgate’s England squad. However, Hammers boss David Moyes has previously stressed that it would take over £100million to prise him out of the club.
Therefore, United are also supposedly targeting Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez. Like Rice for West Ham, the Spaniard holds down a crucial role in the Spanish capital and would not come cheap.
Leicester’s Wilred Ndidi is the third player on the Old Trafford shortlist, the Daily Mirror adds. Ndidi has made himself one of the first names on Brendan Rodgers’ team sheet in recent seasons.
