Euro Paper Talk: Man Utd offered €30m centre-back deal; Tottenham leading trio in chase for £15m defender Manchester United have learned that a top centre-back target could be available at a bargain price, while Tottenham are leading the chase for a £15m defender – both in Friday’s Euro Paper Talk. MAN UTD EYE BARGAIN CENTRE-BACK DEAL In the wake of two home defeats in the space of just three days, Manchester United’s transfer focus has once turned towards signing a top-class centre-back. Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof struggled in the absence of injured skipper Harry Maguire as United were thumped 4-2 by a resurgent Liverpool on Thursday night. Bailly played alongside Axel Tuanzebe in Tuesday’s loss to Leicester, but was paired with Lindelof again against Jurgen Klopp’s men. It’s a partnership that has often struggled to give United a solid foundation, hence the continued search for an upgrade. The likes of Raphael Varane, Marcos Llorente, Jules Kounde and Kalidou Koulibaly have been continually linked with an Old Trafford switch. But a report from Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) claims that the Red Devils have been alerted to the news that another target, Villarreal’s Pau Torres, could be available for as little as €30million. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will get a first-hand look at Torres when United face the Spanish outfit in the Europa League final this month. Napoli are also keen on landing the player, but it would appear that United are the frontrunner at this stage. If they could land Torres for a bargain price, it would allow Solskjaer to boost other areas of his team this summer. A new right-winger is also wanted, while a move for a striker is not now as important since Edinson Canavi signed up for another year.
