Former RB Leipzig boss Ralf Rangnick has been offered the vacant Tottenham job amid a host of setbacks for the club, a report claims.
Spurs’ hunt for a new manager began last month after Jose Mourinho got the sack. Ryan Mason has taken the reins until the end of the season, but the north London club are looking for a proper replacement. As such, several names have entered the fray in recent weeks over the job.
However, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has suffered big blows with his targets.
Recently-departed Leipzig manager Julian Nagelsmann will replace Hansi Flick at Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, Leipzig will recruit RB Salzburg coach Jesse Marsch as Nagelsmann’s replacement.
Then, on Friday, Ajax boss Erik ten Hag banished any links to Spurs by signing a contract extension.
Nevertheless, Rangnick is another name who is still in the running. He has a lengthy CV in management, working for seven German clubs including Leipzig and Schalke.
Furthermore, he worked for Leipzig – until 2019 – but then moved into a global sports director’s role at Red Bull. He also briefly worked with AC Milan and BILD journalist Christian Falk says that he has been offered the Tottenham job.
“We have already talked about how Rangnick and Tottenham could become hot, and I have now heard quite specifically that he was offered the job,” the reporter said.
“In any case, he is on the shortlist, and that means talks will come.
“From the club, he still hears a bit of scepticism, but he’s already held talks with Manchester United and Everton in the UK in the past that never quite worked out.
“There must have been reasons for that, we don’t know them all, but it’s nice that he’s now being discussed.
“They need a new Tuchel, and in the UK, they believe the German coaches have done a lot of groundwork, which could be a big ace in the hole for Rangnick to Tottenham.”
Rangnick compared to Bielsa

While Falk compares Rangnick to Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, the 62-year-old has also earned comparisons with Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa.
Pundit Noel Whelan told Football Insider: “When you’ve got experience, that amount of knowledge in the game and you’ve helped along some really fantastic managers to present, you do think to yourself: ‘The German Marcelo Bielsa.’
“Bielsa had that with Pochettino and other managers as well, that massive respect. You look for somebody that can improve a team, that has experience.

“He probably might not be Tottenham fans’ first choice of manager. However, we didn’t know too much about Marcelo Bielsa when he came to Leeds United.
“Let’s not start judging until he’s started the season and see where they end up. You can never rule out anybody at any age.”
