Nicky Butt comes clean on Man Utd exit and denies rumours Nicky Butt has denied that the reason he left Manchester United was because of changes in the backroom of the club. Butt worked as Man Utd’s head of first-team development in March. It brought an end to a nine-year off-the-pitch association with the club he used to play for. The timing coincided with a re-structure of roles at United, including John Murtough becoming their first ever football director. Immediately, rumours emerged about the reasoning behind Butt’s departure. There was talk of clashes with Murtough at the training ground, which witnesses described as “explosive”. Butt was also said to have been unhappy that he wasn’t given enough prior notice of the changes at the club. He would reportedly have liked to put his name forward for Murtough’s new role or the technical director one that Darren Fletcher stepped into. But Butt has denied that those behind-the-scenes changes led to his decision to leave. “No, not at all,” he told Sky Sports News. “I was comfortable in my job. I was comfortable in my surroundings. “Again, it was just a personal choice to leave the club because I felt like it was my time to go and explore other opportunities. “Obviously, with what has gone on over the past few days, it looks like there was a reason I left but that wasn’t the reason. My reason for leaving was purely to accept new challenges that will hopefully come soon. “I love the club. Always have, always will.” Butt questions trust in Glazers The former midfielder also spoke about the role of United’s owners, the Glazer family, in the European Super League. They have now retracted their entry into the breakaway competition, but Butt feels it will take time for them to regain the trust of the public. “I don’t see how it’s possible,” he said. “It’s difficult to regain someone’s trust after going behind people’s back for so long. “It’s going to be difficult. I don’t know how they do it.” READ MORE: Woodward breaks silence on Man Utd exit and praises three players   The post Nicky Butt comes clean on Man Utd exit and denies rumours appeared first on TEAMtalk. - SPORT BETTING
