Leicester back in for Celtic ace Rodgers knows well but obstacle emerges Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers will reportedly make another effort to sign Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor when the transfer widow opens this summer. The Foxes chief is a known admirer of the Scotland midfielder, who worked under the Northern Irishman at Celtic Park. McGregor, 27, came up through the Hoops youth ranks. And, after making his senior debut in July 2014, the talented schemer has now enjoyed 321 outings for the club. He has started all 33 of the Bhoys Scottish Premiership games this term, scoring three goals. The Glaswegian has also chipped in with seven assists and played 44 times in all competitions. McGregor penned a new five-year deal with Celtic in November 2019 and is tied down until the summer of 2024. But, according to The Sun, that will not prevent Rodgers trying his luck. It has been said that Leicester will look to make just a couple of signings in the off-season. Therefore the East Midlanders may well have the funds for a serious attempt to lure him to the King Power Stadium. Leicester have enjoyed an excellent campaign to date and sit third in the Premier League table. Although there are big clubs challenging, they are in a great spot to secure Champions League football for next season. A return to Europe’s elite club competition will place further demands on the squad. And McGregor’s box-to-box style would be a huge bonus to the squad. There has been no mention of any potential fee involved but he will not come cheap. With three years of his contract remaining and at the peak of his powers, Celtic will want top dollar. Rodgers the key to McGregor capture McGregor has played his entire career at Celtic Park save for a loan spell with Notts County. That came in 2013-14 and he excelled, with 14 goals from 41 appearances for the League One outfit. The man with 29 Scotland caps has made it clear how proud he is to play for the Celts. And Rodgers will need to use all his powers of persuasion to bring him south of the border. The duo know each other well and the fact Leicester may well qualify for the Champions League will be key. Celtic are currently under interim manager John Kennedy, with former Bournemouth chief Eddie Howe favourite for the permanent post. He was linked with McGregor when in charge of the Cherries and is clearly a fan. Whether that has any affect on the player’s future only time will tell. But it seems as though he may have decisions to make during the summer.
