Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc appears to have no concerns about the meeting that has taken place to lay the groundworks for Erling Haaland potentially joining Barcelona.
Haaland’s father Alf-Inge and agent Mino Raiola were pictured in Barcelona on Thursday. Reports then revealed they had a two-and-a-half-hour meeting with Barca president Joan Laporta. The La Liga giants are beginning to explore a possible deal for the striker.
Haaland is one of the most in-demand players in the world. The striker has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence and is commanding interest from clubs bigger than current employers Dortmund.
Premier League trio Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with the 20-year-old. However, it is Barcelona who have made the first official contact.
Talks are still in their early stages as Barcelona work out how to fund the deal. Haaland could cost €180m and would want wages worth £600,000 per week.
Therefore, Barca would have to shift players like Philippe Coutinho, Samuel Umtiti and Antoine Griezmann first. But they don’t want to miss out to a generational talent like Haaland when their rivals Real Madrid are also trying to sign him.
The meeting they have had with Raiola and Haaland senior suggests they are planting the seeds for a possible deal. But Dortmund remain “relaxed”, insists Zorc.
“Yesterday I spoke to Mino Raiola and we’ve made our intentions very clear,” Zorc told Sky Germany.
“No problem when Alfie and Mino want to take a sunbath on the Mediterranean Sea,” he added to Sport1. “I am relaxed because I know what we want.”
Remaining under contract until 2024, Haaland’s future is in Dortmund’s hands. He has scored 49 goals from 49 games for them and they are keen to enjoy his talents for as long as possible.
There is a release clause in his contract, but it will only be active from next summer. In the meantime, they will have to ward off any interested parties.
Haaland entourage also meet Madrid
In a further development, Cadena Cope have revealed that Haaland senior and Raiola have now met with Real Madrid for similar reasons. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the news.
Madrid chief Florentino Perez is also trying to learn what it would take to sign the Norway international.
In return, Haaland’s father and Raiola want to find out what Madrid could offer and whether they would be able to sign him.
They will return to Germany in the evening to reflect on what they have found out on their trip to Spain.
