Reported Chelsea target Jonas Hofmann says one interested club have “already asked” about his availability this summer.
The 28-year-old, who played for new Blues boss Thomas Tuchel at Borussia Dortmund, has dropped a huge hint that he could be set to follow the German coach to Stamford Bridge.
Last month The Sun, via Bild, claimed Tuchel wanted to be reunited with the Borussia Monchengladbach attacker.
Hofmann is contracted until 2023 and is valued at around £14m, says the paper. And with no buyout clause in his deal, Tuchel is said to hopeful Chelsea can land a bargain.
And that prospect looks real after Hofmann admitted to speaking to an interested party.
“Basically, I feel good at Borussia; I’ve always emphasised that,” the Germany international told Ruhr Nachrichten, cited by Sport Witness.
“It may be that one or the other club has expressed its interest.
“Nevertheless, for me, the absolute focus is on having a successful season with Borussia and dedicating myself fully to success. I put my personal situation under it.”
Then asked directly about Chelsea contact, he added: “I think it’s clear that other clubs will notice you if you perform well. Therefore, it is possible that one or the other has already asked.”
Hofmann, who left for Monchengladbach just eight months after Tuchel arrived in North Rhine-Westphalia, has scored seven goals and added 11 assists in all competitions from a right-wing role.
Tottenham were reportedly ready to make a lucrative offer to try and land Hofmann two years ago.
A report in Bild claimed that Spurs are willing to quadruple Hofmann’s current wage in a bid to lure him to north London. Spurs were said to be looking for some back-up for Christian Eriksen at the time, but a deal never happened.
Ziyech to make way for Hofmann?
Meanwhile, Chelsea could have a decision to make about summer signing Hakim Ziyech, as Atletico Madrid reportedly want to lure him away from Stamford Bridge.
Ziyech was one of the many players Chelsea spent heavily on in 2020. The attacking midfielder had shone with Ajax and seemed like he would make an instant impact in London.
However, that has not been the case. Ziyech has not scored for Chelsea since October, and has just two goals to his name for the club.
Since the appointment of Tuchel as manager, Ziyech has only started two Premier League games. It has led to some reports that the Morocco international is unhappy with his situation at Chelsea.
For example, it was recently claimed that La Liga duo Barcelona and Real Madrid would be attentive to his situation. But they appear to have been joined by one of their Spanish rivals.
According to Fichajes.net, Atletico Madrid are interested in Ziyech. And it could well transpire that Tuchel has a replacement in Hofmann.
