Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder bemoaned the current state of refereeing, and declared he’ll drink all the beers his players deserve after a much-improved performance.
Sheffield Utd took their tentative first step towards pulling off a miraculous comeback with a vital victory over Aston Villa.
David McGoldrick handed the hosts a first-half lead after latching onto George Baldock’s errant shot.
Despite going down to ten men after a VAR review saw Phil Jagielka’s yellow card upgraded to a red for a last-man foul, the Blades held on to their slender advantage.
Speaking to BT Sport after the match, Wilder said: “I said to the players I’ll celebrate for them tonight. They have another game on Saturday. All the beers they might have drunk tonight, I’ll do that for them. I’ll give it a good go.

“It was everything you want in a performance. That was a game like 90% of our games last season.”
Regarding Jagielka’s red card, Wilder added: “Not a great decision. I don’t think Villa can ever complain about the decisions that have gone against us in our previous three fixtures. We got on with it and kept the ball out of the back of the net.
“He was a long way out. I still think Bryan is close enough and we had retreating players. I think it’s harsh.
“Some of the decisions, not just for us, but for everyone else are head-scratching.”
