Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has conceded that his side did not do enough offensively in their 4-1 loss to Manchester City on Tuesday evening.
After a muted first-half, the visitors managed to equalise against the run of play when Conor Coady headed in his first goal since April 2018.
This encouraged Wolves to venture forward more frequently for a while but this tailed off when Gabriel Jesus notched City’s second of the night on 80 minutes.
Nuno was aware that his team did not do enough against the runaway Premier League leaders.
He told the BBC: “First half we were organised but no fight, there was a lot of possession from City.
“Second half we had more pressing, were higher up the pitch and creating threats in our possession – which we sustained for a spell of the game.
“The boys were solid and compact. The game went by but we were not able to sustain this and we got punished.
“We felt that we were on the front foot in the second half but after we draw the reaction was not to sustain but we faced a very good opponent.”
Nuno acknowledged the quality of Pep Guardiola’s side, who sealed their 21st consecutive win on the night, highlighting that they took full advantage Wolves’ late lapses of concentration.
“The plan didn’t work for so long but we faced a very good opponent and had good lines of possession,” he added.
“Your task is harder when City have the advantage. The boys did well, there is no perfect plan ever in the game but we were facing a team with a very good plan also.
“We must look at the game because we made a couple of mistakes under the pressure of City and they are very dangerous and they will punish you.
“City are very talented, amazing players, amazing manager. All the other teams that come here find it difficult because they are a good opponent.”

Tough lesson for Wolves
Some may argue that the scoreline flatters Man City but Wolves paid the price for showing limited ambition.
In trying to contain their opponents, they conceded an own goal via Leander Dendoncker after just 15 minutes.
After a chance-less first 45 minutes, they sparked into life in the second period after Coady’s finish.
However, Jesus’ late strike deflated the away side, who ended up shipping a further two goals before time was up.
That was Wolves’ first away defeat since the 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace on January 30.
