Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea all understood to be interested. However, it was widely expected Alaba would move to the Bernabeu with The Guardian claiming he had penned a pre-contract agreement. Alaba also dropped a strong hint towards Real. “My Spanish is not good, but good enough for the pitch…” he said. However, Covid-19 has hit the LaLiga giants hard in the pocket and they are struggling to match Alaba’s personal terms. The Telegraph stated recently that Alaba is currently asking for close to £400,000-a-week. A report in Metro claimed Chelsea are unlikely to challenge for the Austria captain until he lowers his wage demands. The Vienna-born star has mainly featured in defence throughout his career. He is capable of playing as a left-back or centre-back. But he has also filled in as a defensive midfielder on occasion, and it is claimed that is the role he fancies. How that may affect Chelsea’s and Liverpool’s interest is unclear.
