Respected German journalist Christian Falk insists Chelsea misfit Timo Werner has no intention of being used as a makeweight in a deal to sign Erling Haaland.
Werner, 25, has been linked with a summer exit from Stamford Bridge despite only arriving in July last year. The Germany hitman was prolific in front of goal for RB Leipzig but has struggled to make the transition to the Premier League.
He has scored just five top-flight goals from 28 outings and 10 in all competitions. That is in stark contrast to the 34 he bagged in 2019-2020 for the Bundesliga side.
Recent reports have suggested Werner may be looking to head home at the end of the current campaign. Chelsea are one of the club’s said to be keen on Borussia Dortmund wonderkid Haaland.
The 21-year-old has notched 31 goals from 30 outings for BVB and there may be a scramble for his signature.
It was reported that the Blues were willing to trade Werner for the Norway international. But BILD journalist Falk has made it clear that it’s a non-starter.

The report claims that Werner wants to remain in west London and fight for his spot in the side.
Many suitors for Haaland
A number of big-name clubs have been linked with a summer swoop for Haaland. With his prowess in front of goal, it seems certain he will move on sooner rather than later.
Dortmund will receive a hefty fee for the youngster and continue their policy of selling on young talent. Both Manchester City’s and Manchester United’s name has been mentioned in connection with the forward.
City boss Pep Guardiola has kept his cards close to his chest regarding the starlet. But he acknowledged Haaland’s form to reporters on Friday.
“The numbers speak for themselves,” he said. “He is one of the best strikers in the world right now for his age. I know the quality of this player.
“He is a player for Borussia Dortmund. I don’t like it when people talk about our players so I cannot answer this question.”
It appears as though the son of former Nottingham Forest, Leeds and Man City star Alf-Inge will have his pick of clubs. The price tag has yet to be established but it seems clear that Werner will not be included in any business.
The German’s next opportunity to show what he can do comes on Sunday as the Blues host Sheffield United in the FA Cup quarter-finals.
