Tottenham have been told of the fee it would take to bring a Serie A superstar to England and potentially solve a common Jose Mourinho complaint.
Tottenham are in the midst of their worst run of the season under Mourinho.
Four defeats in five in the league has seen them slide down the league ladder to ninth position.
Harry Kane’s brief absence hit hard, even drawing the sympathy of club supremo Daniel Levy. But it is in another area of the squad that things have taken a turn for the worse.
Just two clean sheets have been registered in their last 12 Premier League encounters.
Mourinho has mixed and matched his central defensive pairings over that time. Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon have all been handed opportunities, but none have stood out to any significant degree.
A rock-solid defensive pairing has always been something fundamentally critical to a Mourinho-managed team.
As such, Tottenham along with Liverpool were heavily linked with a winter window switch for Inter ace Milan Skriniar.
The Slovakian, 26, has thrived after a slow start under Antonio Conte to become a key cog in the Serie A leaders’ backline.
Responding to the January links, the player distanced himself from a move while reaffirming his happiness in Milan.
However, Tottenham remain undeterred according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport.
They report (via Goal), that ‘Spurs remain keen’ on Skriniar. Furthermore, they are said to be ‘piecing together plans for a summer approach.’
Fees in the region of £45m-£50m were previously touted as being required to dislodge Skriniar from Italy.
Putting a definitive figure on it, the report claims Tottenham have been told the sum of ‘£52 million ($73m)’ will be enough to seal a deal.
Mourinho unhappy with Europa League rules
Meanwhile, Mourinho spoke on his superb record in London derbies and vented his frustration at the Europa League rules.
Mourinho’s side return to action less than 72 hours after beating Wolfsberger 4-1 in the Europa League – a competition that the Portuguese very much wants to win and might be Spurs’ best route into next season’s Champions League.
But he says contending with teams who have been eliminated from this season’s Champions League is unfair.
