Liverpool shocked Newcastle by swooping in to land a defender on deadline day, while Mauricio Pochettino is fuming at Daniel Levy – all in the latest Paper Talk.
NEWCASTLE SHOCKED BY LIVERPOOL DEAL
Newcastle had a deal in place to sign Schalke defender Ozan Kabak before Liverpool hijacked the transfer, according to a report.
The Reds bolstered their battered back line on deadline day with the loan signing of the Turkey international.
What’s more, Liverpool have the option to buy the 20-year-old for £18million at the end of the season.
According to BBC Sport reporter Ian Dennis, however, Liverpool were initially set to lose out on Kabak.
Indeed, the Magpies had a deal in place and had prepared to sign the transfer off.
However, Dennis says that Liverpool ‘blew Newcastle out of the water’ when they registered their interest.
Schalke have pressing financial problems this season and were immediately buoyed by the Anfield club’s proposition. Although, Dennis does not make clear what sort of package Steve Bruce’s men had put forward for the defender.
In any case, Kabak will likely have a regular role in the weeks and months to come following long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip.
