Jose Mourinho said that he only needed one minute at half time to talk to his Tottenham players and push them to victory over West Brom.
Spurs responded to a run of three successive Premier League defeats with a 2-0 victory over West Brom on Sunday.
Harry Kane proved the inspiration on his return to the team from an ankle injury. Indeed, his link-up with Son Heung-min sparked back into life, as Spurs‘ attack followed suit.
The hosts dominated the first half, Kane missing three chances.
But despite the score remaining 0-0 at the break, Mourinho did not need to give his side much inspiration.
“We felt frustration, yes, but at the same time we felt confidence, positivity,” the manager told BT Sport.
“I spoke with the players at half time, maybe one minute.
“I didn’t need more than one minute because there was not much to say, apart from we are going in the right direction and if we play the same way we have to win the game.”
Kane put Spurs in front from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s accurate pass, before Son finished off a deadly counter-attack to make it 2-0.
But Mourinho insisted that he “loved” his players’ ability to “compromise” against the Premier League strugglers.
Mourinho revels in Spurs response
“I loved the compromise of the players. I loved the effort, the determination, the clear showing to everyone how good they are and how much they were suffering,” he added.
“That for me was the fundamental thing. Of course we were dominant.
“In the first half we had big dominance and we had a couple of good chances, but the compromise of the players for me is the most important thing.
“We are very happy with the three points that were very important to kill the negatives.”
Spurs return to action on Wednesday when they face Everton in the fifth round of the FA Cup.
Meanwhile, speaking prior to Sunday’s win, former Tottenham man Gus Poyet sent a message to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy about Mourinho’s future.
