Manchester United in pole position for €35m centre-back who ‘will go to England’ Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic “will go to England” with Manchester United the top suitors for the centre-back, claims a report in Italy. Milenkovic, 23, was regularly named as a target for United in July 2019, before Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turned to Harry Maguire. Tottenham and Liverpool have been mentioned as suitors for the defender more recently, although La Nazione (via Inside Futbol) insist United’s interest remains. The Serbia international is a man in demand with his contract running out in 2022. That of course means that Fiorentina will have just one summer transfer window left to cash in on the defender. He has played more than 100 Serie A games for the Florence-based side. A contract renewal has not been mentioned and Corriere Fiorentino (via Sport Witness) says Fiorentina expect him to move on this summer. United are also believed to be looking for a new defender to partner Maguire. In fact, according to The Athletic, a new centre-back and a centre-forward is top of Solskjaer’s wanted list. Apparently there is “nothing to be done” when it comes to Milenkovic because he “will go to England”. And a move will enable Fiorentina to go after Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira. As per the Corriere Fiorentino, the Italians hope to bank “between €30-35m” for the former Partizan star. That should be more than enough to fund a transfer for Torreira who is stuck on loan at Atletico Madrid. The midfielder has not seen much action in the Spanish capital. In fact he has made just three league starts with Atletico leading the way in LaLiga.     Mikel Arteta is understood to be open to the 25-year-old leaving in the summer. Arsenal themselves are looking to bank some money to fund their own team strengthening.
